We waited 58 (FIFTY-EIGHT!) minutes for our breakfast to arrive. I got the Western Skillet, and it was gross. Pro Tip: If you pour liquid cheese out of a can at room temperature, IT'S NOT CHEESE. I don't know what that yellow stuff was, but it certainly wasn't cheese. It was inedible. I tried to scrape it off to salvage something of my breakfast, but it was everywhere. Also, my pancakes were cold. Not just lukewarm, not just room temperature, but they were COLD. Chilled. Like they were in a refrigerator. I expected a restaurant literally called "Pancake Chef" could at least do pancakes right. I know it's Northern Michigan and culinary standards are pretty low, but come on, COLD pancakes? Really?
The waitress was untrained. She didn't know what a scone was, and she didn't know what Eggs Benedict were. I legit felt sorry for her. It's not her fault her management sent her into the dining room so woefully unprepared. She was very kind and friendly and did her best with what she had to work with, but she had to serve the food the kitchen gave her. I left her a good tip, I just wish I could have deducted that from the cost of the meal.
I doubt I'll ever be in Mackinaw City ever again, but if I do you can be certain that I will NOT be eating at the so-called Pancake Chef. Such a terrible value. When we left we went to another restaurant to try again because we were still hungry (because the food was so gross we...
Read moreI read so many great reviews about this restaurant, but had a horrible experience. I have a gluten and corn free diet due to my allergies and could actually eat an omelet from here. My group arrived at 9:30 and was told it would be a 40 minute wait. We stayed until our name was called. We were seated at a table. The waitress did not arrive at the table to greet us for another 15 minutes. I told her that I wanted an omelet and she refused the order, since they stopped serving omelets at 11:00 am. I mentioned that I could only eat an omelet and she refused. 1. This order was before 11:00 am (which they stop serving omelets at 11:00 a.m. so that they could prep for lunch) 2. I had to wait for a seat. 3. I had to wait for her to approach the table. She still refused. My party at the table ordered and I could not eat anything. I asked to talk with the manager. He apologized and gave me a guest ticket to come back for two. That is all nice but I left the restaurant with an empty stomach and extremely disappointed. The group at the table did say the food was good. I think they should change their policy of the omelet due to the wait time to be seated during the summer, time for the waitress to arrive at the table and consideration for allergies. I will try this place one more time in the future since I have the certificate. Beware of the long waits and no omelets 10 to 15 minutes before 11:00 a.m....
Read moreThis place used to be amazing, but sadly, it's not what it used to be. I had a BLT, and it was falling apart when they gave it to me. It was $17 or $18 dollars for the BLT, fries, and coleslaw. The slaw, was okay, the fries were your typical frozen bag fries, not great. And the BLT. . . the bread wasn't anything special, the sandwich was falling apart, there was very little mayo on it. It was so strange it was almost flavorless.
My Aunt got Potato Pancakes. . and they are no where near what they were in the past. They looked like hashbrowns, smashed together with something. . . they were greasy and had crispy burnt stuff. Now I will said, our waitress did offer to have them remake it if it was too burnt, but even then, why bring it out? They were not good. :(
My Mom got biscuits and gravy and she said hers was good. So we had a win there!
They never refilled my drink, which I would have enjoyed 1 refill, but the waitress never asked. The place was not at all busy when we were there, so it wasn't because of that.
We used to love this place, and we will give it one more chance, but it's really just not the same as...
