I'm new to the area, so I'm constantly looking for the best chinese food restaurant. Golden City comes pretty close.
The restaurant itself is a decent size. It's going through a remodel, so it's a bit of a mess. I love the owner/server/cashier. She's an older lady and isn't she about giving advice or what's good to order. Very blunt and honest. I probably appreciate that more than most people. For being the only server on a not semi busy night, the service was pretty quick.
But now to the most important part, the food was delicious. Big servings and decent prices. We ordered the General Tso's chicken, Steak and Mushroom, Chicken Chow Mein, and Shrimp in Lobster Sauce. Shrimp dish needed more shrimp, but other than that, all the dishes had good flavor/spice. General Tso's was balanced between sweet and spicy. The steak was tender. The lobster sauce was flavorful. All in all, some of the best chinese I've had so far.
I'm still going to search for the best chinese food restaurant, but I see myself coming back for the food and the...
Read moreNEVER AGAIN! Rather than driving to my normal Chinese restaurant, read the Golden City reviews on Google and decided to try it. Ordered Chow Mein and Shrimp Fried Rice carryout. When entering the restaurant, was hit with a pungent order (similar to bad seafood). Approached the counter. Waited almost 5 minutes for someone to show. Got my food and left. As I walked into the house, noticed the bag was soggy. Removed the contents, and found all of the Chow Mein gravy in the bottom of bag (normal restaurants place the carton inside a plastic bag to avoid this). Placed Chow Mein on my plate. Found large shrimp (GOOD) that still had the shell on the tail (BAD). Tasted the Chow Mein and was left with an after taste similar bad fish adn celery that has gone bad. At 10:30PM, too late to return for a $15.64 refund. Attempted to throw away but my "garbage disposal hubby" decided to eat it. Needless to say, he now has DIARRHEA!! LESSONS LEARNED!
Folks, always choose Chinese...
Read moreBefore I started working out consistently and dieting on and off I used to frequent this place a few times a week. The owners have changed a couple of times over the past 4-6 years but the food still stayed consistent. The staff were always friendly to me remembering my name and what I liked to order. For chinese food, this place was one of the better choices, although of course the price points were lower so the quality matches this. The layout used to be closed and tiny but they opened up the area and now the place has windows for people to view the ongoing traffic. The parking is in the back and there is not a lot of room in the front ot park, especially when spaces are limited. The chicken fried rice is what I would recommend, and to make it taste a bit flavorful I think requesting it to be blackened with soy sauce should do the trick. The wonton soup is delicious I always get that, and if you are dining in, it comes...
