Baked Lab (by appt only) — Restaurant in Madison

My husband and I hired The Baked Lab for our February 2023 wedding and we could not have been more happy! Everything was so much fun (and tasty) from the initial consultation to the tasting to the wedding! We felt like Shawn communicated very well with us and answered all our questions in a timely manner. We actually were having a hard time finding a cake vendor for months - we knew we wanted a beautiful large “traditional” cake and when we saw pictures of Shawn’s work we were sold! Our cake had a modern shape with our wedding colors splashed across the front and it turned out 100x better than even the mock up sketch we were given! It truly was a piece of art in our ceremony space.

After we booked The Baked Lab, we had multiple vendors tell us “oh and those cakes TASTE good too!”, something that I guess is hard to find with wedding cake artists! Our guests raved about our cake after the wedding as well, something i know I’ve never personally done with desserts I’ve had at other weddings. There were unique flavors to choose from and all of them were super good, it was almost hard to narrow it down!

Could not recommend this bakery enough! We can’t wait to use this place for future cakes...

Sean and his team did an incredible job with our cake and desserts. The cake tasting was low pressure and everything tasted amazing. We had a tough time deciding on our flavors but ultimately went with the carrot cake and the traditional wedding cake with raspberry. Sean added the floral to the cake (from Blooms by Brandi) and it all looked exactly as we had discussed by email and via inspiration photos.

We also ordered a variety of desserts from the Baked Lab, including cookie sandwiches and, the guest favorite— the mini cream puffs. 😋 Ultimately we had way too many treats, but we were glad to have the variety, and it’s better than not having enough.

I highly recommend Sean and his team for great tasting cakes, an affordable price point, an eye for detailed design, and responsive communication.

August 2024: Picked up a mini (4") raspberry champagne cake as a birthday cake. The person at pickup was kind and helpful. Cake has been amazing and I look forward to future cakes! As a person who hasn't always liked cake because frosting can feel too sweet and too heavy, this cake converts me back to a cake lover. The flavors are wonderful and the frosting is smooth and rich (but not so rich that it just sits like a brick in your stomach!) and actually adds to the experience. A lovely dessert to help celebrate a birthday (or any occasion)!

December 2024: So not only are the cakes delicious, but the cookie sandwiches might be even better. I was able to try the Birthday Babe flavor and they are amazing. Skip the Crumbl and go here, please. Also, there was a hiccup with one of my orders and the interactions with staff were prompt, kind, and helpful.
