Came by here the other day for a treat. It's a cute little shop that makes me super nostalgic for my years working at a froyo shop in high school (even though, mind you, this is Italian ice and soft serve).
This dessert shop is located in a sort of inauspicious looking shopping mall in Madison. It's right next door to Just Love Coffee and a storefront that says it's about to become "Dogtopia." The parking lot is very long and fairly wide; no troubles there.
I arrived right after they opened and it was spotless and had that nice, bright, clean scent I associate with freshly mopped floors. I understand it's sometimes annoying to have a customer come in on the early side of opening, but a staff member came out and served me politely. I explained I'd never visited before and she gave me a brief run down of what kind of treat I could build.
They have Italian ice, soft serve, and then what they call gelati -- not to be confused as the plural of gelato; this means a mixture of both Italian ice AND soft serve. This seems to be their signature thing. You can build your own gelati by selecting flavors and toppings, or pick from a curated menu of popular combinations. I chose the latter, since it was less intimidating, lol.
If I remember correctly, what I got was called an Oreo mud pie. It had cookies and cream Italian ice, vanilla and chocolate swirled soft serve, and crumbled Oreo pieces layered in. I got the smallest size serving and thought the price was reasonable and the serving size satisfying.
Overall, I enjoyed this dessert. I definitely liked the soft serve more than the Italian ice, but that doesn't really surprise me; I usually prefer creamier treats. The soft serve was smooth and had a distinct vanilla flavor. The Italian ice was okay; oddly, it had a peculiar minty taste to it, in addition to the faintly chocolatey, faintly creamy cookies and cream vibe. Perhaps it was made in the same machine as a different, minty flavor? Not really sure what caused it, but I didn't dislike it. I appreciated that the staff member asked while I was eating if I was happy with what I got.
This seems like a sweet place to bring kids and family members for a unique dessert. Give it a...
Read moreI ordered one of the flavorites, and it is supposed to come like a layered creation alternating between the Italian ice, soft serve, and mix in. When I got mine, the girl covered the cup with a paper towel so that I couldn’t see the layers. I didn’t see it until I got in the car, but it was literally just Italian ice on the bottom and soft serve on the top. I thought it was really sneaky and very dishonest how she tried to cover it up so I couldn’t see it until later. With how small the cups are, there was literally no room to mix it myself. I just had to eat through the soft serve, and by the time I got to the Italian ice, it was completely melted. Like there was a reason why the treat is supposed to be layered!
The soft serve also has zero flavor. Mine was a swirl, and there was no difference between the vanilla or the chocolate. The soft serve was also not soft. I would describe it as chunky.
This was a waste of $7 plus tip. Owners should work on training their employees to make the...
Read moreI love Jeremiah’s Ice! Was so excited to find out they had one here in Madison. My youngest girls (5 & 8) do not like the gelati but love the italian ice by itself. Unfortunately we won’t be back due to the last 2 visits the customer service has been horrible. The young ladies who work there are awesome, kind and welcoming but my past 2 visits we were served by a rude man. He seemed to be having a bad day or was annoyed but customers should not feel like they are a bother in an establishment. The most recent visit was the last chance…my daughters both excitedly said thank you to him and he literally smacked his lips and said nothing. I get not all days will be good but working in customer service you gotta be more aware of the energy and tone you are setting with customers. Especially in an environment where kids are happy and excited to try something yummy. Sad and disappointed with this location but I will visit the one back home. They are much friendlier and engaging...
