Lost my business on visit #1. This review is based on my visit on Jan 2nd. 2023. I ordered the shrimp and grits omelet under the omelet section of the menu. My wife created her own omelet. The waitress(Calli) proceeded to ask both of us what bread I wanted along with choice of grits, home fries or fruit. Seeing as how i ordered "shrimp and GRITS", I chose home fries. We heard the kitchen send her back to our table to ask me if I wanted the grits or home fries. I was confused because I ordered the shrimp and grits and didn't understand why she wanted to know if i wanted grits or home fries i clearly stated my choices. She told me that because I ordered the shrimp and grits, I had to choose between grits or home fries, which didn't make sense with me ordering 'shrimp and grits.' I then told her " I only chose home fries because you asked me". Being put into forces position to make a new choice, I then asked her how the grits came on that order. She went back and forth on her answer confidently saying "Inside the omelet ", then saying "No, it comes on top", then she said "I think, um, do you want me to go ask?" I'm thinking by now, "You don't know do you?". Overly confused, I decided to just cancel the omelete and go back to ordering what I originally wanted to order (The crab cakes) because of what transpired with the shrimp and grits mixup. She misinformed me and seems to not know the menu well. Additionally, I ordered the Good Morning Sunrise beverage, which was missing the club soda. We heard her go back to the kitchen and tell them that I didn't want the shrimp and grits anymore and gave them my new order. She didn't tell them why I changed my order, instead all she said to the kitchen staff was "He don't want the shrimp and grits anymore" No details, and they didn't ask. We then heard the cook angrily say, " What?! I just made it!" She just told them I didn't want it anymore, in a tone like I was a difficult customer. We then heard the cook frustratingly say that it was gonna be a wait for my new plate, which Callie did not do. My wife and daughter were done with their breakfast when my order arrived. She also never brought my raisin bread, and even when asked about it, she ignored the request. She showed lack of care for her mistakes and never apologized. I was obviously disappointed and I did not enjoy my time there or the food due to the negative experience and the blame she put on me for changing my order. Callie simply did not care. I walked out of the restaurant feeling like the kitchen placed the fault on me and was angry that they had to make me replacement dish. Calli could have made the experience better by taking responsibility for her mistakes and showing that she actually cares about customer experience. The whole diner can hear what is said at the counter between staff and kitchen. The staff should be more careful on what they say about customers, furthermore, maybe it's not the customers fault. They did a good job of making me feel like I was the problem and that they did not...
Read moreI don't usually eat breakfast at breakfast time...but I do enjoy it for other meals. With that in mind, I came to EUG for lunch this past Monday.
They were fairly busy around 11:45, which surprised me a little bit given it was a weekday and they close at 2. Good for them though! You seat yourself at this restaurant. I was flying solo and tried to take as small a table as possible. The only ones available still needed to be cleaned off, but I took one and someone came by relatively fast to clean it up for me. The interior of the restaurant is bright and sunshiney, perfect for an upbeat breakfast place.
The menu is pretty large and has some kind of cool and unique concepts. It's mostly breakfast and brunch food, but they do have a couple standard American lunch type dishes, like a few burgers and other sandwiches like BLTs and cheesesteaks.
It took a little while for me to get a menu and a clean table, but once that was done and I got into a groove with my waitress, she was exceptional. Very friendly, got my food and drink to me promptly, offered me a to go drink without me even asking, warm and polite demeanor. I didn't catch her name but she was great.
For my meal, I wound up feeling a little experimental and ordered the southwestern bowl. It consists of home fries with ham, jalapeños, peppers and onions, pepperjack cheese, and eggs cooked to your desire -- I opted for scrambled. I also asked for no ham because that's not my breakfast meat of choice, which they accommodated happily. They did forget the sour cream and salsa that was supposed to come on the side, but my waitress fixed it quickly when I asked for it.
I really liked this dish! The home fries were mostly crispy and not underdone (a couple of the bigger ones were a little dry, but nothing some sour cream couldn't fix). It really was actually somewhat spicy -- the jalapeños were punchy and acidic and the peppers brought a sweeter, more mellow heat. In a perfect world I prefer my scrambled eggs cooked a tiny bit runnier than these were, but I still enjoyed them a good bit. Mixing the bowl all together and getting every ingredient in each bite was really satisfying. I'd definitely order this again -- I finished it feeling satisfied but not gross or overstuffed.
I thought the price was pretty reasonable, enjoyed my food, and appreciated the hard work my waitress put in. ...
Read moreEDIT: We have since gone back and I can say without a doubt the service was 100% better. Everyone was on their toes and very involved with the restaurant. We had an amazing time we will definitely make this a go-to breakfast spot!
This restaurant has the potential to be absolutely amazing. My meal of Corned Beef has and eggs was delicious. Food was cooked excellent. They did fall flat on their face in a couple places. I understand it is their first week and I will update this review when I go back.
We came in on a Friday morning at about 7:45. It was VERY evident that more training needs to take place. There were obvious mix-ups in the kitchen as we could hear them correcting orders.
The staff schedule should be adjusted. There were about 8-10 employees who came in at 8am. I feel they could have eliminated some of the stress and confusion from the kitchen and patrons had they come in at 7am.
The 2 servers were scrambling to catch up the new servers with who's table was where and what was happening. '
What I can only assume was one of the franchisees, told the 8am hostess to let the upcoming patrons that the kitchen was backed up and to expect a wait. This tuned away several people.
The wait times for food were very long. Several people left before getting their food.
I ended up going to the register myself to pay as my ticket had not been brought to us timely.
There was back-of-house paperwork/laptop/backpack at the dine-in counter taking up 2 stools. This could have been easily put away at anytime.
I end this knowing it was their first week. They were fully aware of their errors, which I think is great IF they learn and correct themselves. I do believe their biggest downfall today was scheduling. Too many people coming in after the large amount of patrons wanted breakfast. And definitely not enough help in the kitchen for the early eaters.
I will be back. I hope their first weekend goes smoothly and they don't let their...
