We have been eating here forever it seems like but seriously since we moved back to Alabama we’ve eaten here at least once a month. Today I ordered the catfish and oyster combo plate. I took the first bite into my oyster it was so hard I cracked my tooth in half. I instantly cried out in pain the waitresses came running over and we told her what had happened, she went and got another waitress and they talked and wanted to get the owner Lisa. I went into the bathroom to rinse my bloody mouth out and see how bad the carnage was. I came back out and the two waitresses had used their fingers to “mash” My oysters to see if there was anything hard in them. They took my plate because I was not one going to finish eating after they put their fingers in my food and two I was in way to much pain. The owner had gotten there at this point and my jaw was swelling up and she looked at my plate that was at the server stand said something to the waitress and proceeded to go sit down at the other side of the restaurant and start eating. I said well she’s obviously not going to come say anything so I went to pay and they said she said to charge you full price for your plate. I was at the point that accidents happen and if she would have said I am terribly sorry that would have been the end of it I wouldn’t have even minded paying but since she acted like a two year old she will be getting the dentist’s bill Monday and any other bills from this point. It also didn’t help that two of her cook staff came out into the dining room to eat while we were waiting for our food and they looked like they had just gotten off shift at a mechanic shop they were covered in grease from head to toe they ate the one rubbed his face with his hands no mask on and went right into the kitchen and prepared our food and I am certain since he walked right by two sinks he did not wash his hands. I have literally eaten at every restaurant that has been in this building since I was a kid and like I said before have probably eaten here a dozen and a half times in the last two years and it has gone downhill so much in the last four months. I am willing to bet she doesn’t have insurance that is why she refused to speak to me. I had absolutely no interest in having her pay for anything but now I’m going to sue the hell out of her for my tooth all because she acted like a...
Read moreFirst of all, let me say how much i LOVE their food. Especially their chicken stew. The only reason I gave 3 stars is because I have spent over $100 or so on food there doing buisness with them and also tipped for every to go order. The last time I went there, I had ordered my usual, a half gallon of chicken stew. The first few times they asked if I wanted it hot, im not sure if this made a difference in the taste or of the gallon jar they served it to me in was dirty. The whole half gallon was cold and smelled, also tasted of pickles. Old pickles at that. By time i had sit down to eat it and noticed, they were closed. So i tried again for the next week to reach them after my shift, before realizing they changed their hours over night. Instead of closing at 8pm, they were now closing at 2pm daily. I eventually got in touch with them today which was a little over a week AFTER the fact. They knew exactly who I was yet told me there was nothing they could do because it had been over a week. I wasnt looking for any hand outs, yet I am also afraid to waste my money their again. The people there are really nice and only do what they are told, yet ive worked for MANY food places and they knew when I told them, that it was from Dirty dishes & STILL would not compensate me. Mind yall, I took one bite even after smelling the pickled stew, thinking maybe it was just me. But no, it tasted EXACTLY like it smelled! So I ended up wasting $20 Because I through the whole half gallon away. Im not sure why they even put a half gallon in a whole gallon jar, but one thing i can tell you, it was NOT WASHED PROPERLY. I will most likely never go back because I refuse to waist anymore money. Im not gambling with dirty to go dishes. That is DISGUSTING. AND The manager did not want to talk to me either. My guess is they already know what happend and its not the food, but if the togo dishes are dirty, imagine what your food is being cooked with. Probably half washed dishes would be my guess. Im good. Thanks...
Read moreJust do yourself a favor and eat here. WHOLE CATFISH. Affordable and juicy steak, burgers on Texas toast, absolutely dreamy sweet tea, velvety sweet coleslaw, homemade tartar sauce. The serving sizes are insane. This is the Southern hospitality I miss living in North Alabama. There's only one other restaurant in the area that comes close, and it's a little out of the way. Nothing else like it in Huntsville or Madison. Lots of variety on the side dishes. Entrees that are grilled or fried. Beef liver and onion!
If you want the kind of Southern restaurant your grandma and grandpa took you to as a kid, this is the spot. The workers here are authentically Southern and warm. And, if you're on the go, you can call ahead for takeout. (If you dine in, you can get buttery hush puppies to share at the table, though!) We've been ordering out here for a couple of years, and had our first dine-in experience tonight with Donna, who has the spunky, friendly charm of some of my favorite art and theater teachers in high school and college. She was genuinely fun to talk to, and she was comfortable walking me through menu questions and suggestions.
I can't believe we held off so long on dining in. Can't wait...
