I want to give them a 5, but can't. I have to say I have only ordered prepared food, which is really good if it is spot on and deserves a 5. The staff here has always been nice, and I have always been served in a timely manner. I usually get the "Daily Catch", and usually it is very good. Too many times, though, the fries were cold or burnt or old (or all of the above). But that isn't a major issue, because I am really here for the fish. The deep fried salmon, however, just doesn't work for me. I have nothing against salmon, it just doesn't seem like it should be a fish that gets battered and deep fried. Additionally, I have called to ask what the "Daily Catch" would be, and was told this and that...and salmon. Seems like there is always salmon. Now if it is one of the 4 pieces, fine. But I have also gotten the "Daily Catch" where they named 4 kinds of fish, only to end up with 2 pieces of salmon and none of at least one of the other fishes named. One time I ended up with 5 pieces of fish instead of 4, but 3 of them were salmon! I have also ordered the deep fried cod, and unfortunately (and surprisingly) wasn't impressed. So sorry Seafood Center, as much as I love you and recommend you to everyone I know, if I have to choose between 4 and 5, I have to...
Read moreBAD LOBSTER TAILS I purchased two lobster tails on 12/20/21 and prepared them on 12/21/21. I purchased two "large" tails. To my surprise, they were actually filled with water, frozen, then weighed. This is confirmed by the bad having approximately 3/4 cup of water in both bags. I decided to put that aside because it was Christmas and we will just have to settle for smaller tails this year. The package weight indicated that they were 1 pound tails, but after they deforested they were closer to 8oz tails. The first tail was delicious, only complaint is that I paid $54.00 for a small tail. However the second tail was so salty that it was completely inedible; again another $54.00 for something that I had to throw away. I have been eating lobster for 40+ years and have never come across a tail that was salted. I am wondering if they do this so they absorb more water, or as a preservator? Whatever the answer, I paid $108.00 for an 8oz tail. This was my mistake and lesson learned, but I can inform others not to make the same mistake. I know that there is a shortage of cold water tails, but this was...
Read moreSeafood Center might as well be a historical entity within the city of Madison. 4 generations of my family have shopped here consistently and it's a worthwhile stop for us after every grocery run we make.
Crab cakes can be an embarrassing product for most grocers, most of the ones you'll find are all filler and diced red peppers... this isn't the case here. While all seafood sellers have standards like crab cakes, one of the biggest features about this location is the ability for them to serve cooked food that they sell right at the counter.
It's an experience fit for every Madisonian, pick out something from the menu and they'll serve it to you right there on the spot. The takeout business is very affordable (lunch baskets around $7-10), and it feels like a slice of small-town that you just can't find in the...
