Overall: Stellie's excels at fruit flavors with a cute shop and friendly staff. However, vanilla & chocolate flavors were lacking, and the place was messy with nowhere to sit. It was OK; I look forward to seeing it improve over the coming months.
The Good: The staff were friendly and willing to explain everything to us, even at the end of the day The strawberry & cherry flavors were bold and delicious The merchandise, aprons, and overall aesthetic were well-coordinated and very cute Plentiful outdoor seating for warmer weather Easy parking (at least at 9PM on a Sunday)
The Bad: The shop is disorganized and not user-friendly. Toppings aren't written anywhere, and the ice cream flavors are all placed on display at least twice but with space between them and different layouts. The customer is led to think there are more than 8 flavors to try. I don't know why so much space was given to the serving counter instead of indoor seating. As stated above, no indoor seating The vanilla flavors (such as salted caramel pecan) were strong in vanilla but not the other mix-ins The dark chocolate flavor tasted more like coffee than chocolate. It left a bad aftertaste IMO Everything is overpriced. A small scoop of ice cream should not be $5. Food serving areas were messy. The shop was not busy enough to not clean these areas at the time we were in. The owner was also filming a promotional video instead of helping out Waffle cones were not wrapped tightly. Ice cream leaks out if not...
Read moreCan’t comment on the ice cream itself, but my partner and I finally had the chance to swing over and try Stellies the other day (she’s been so excited to try it). Unfortunately we got there around 515, well within their operating hours, and there was a “we’ll be back” sign on the door. Hoping they’d be back soon we decided to wait awhile at the outdoor seating next door at the Lone Girl. Within five minutes of waiting the two workers at Stellies came back, ice cream cart bike in tow, and proceeded to goof around for the next five to ten minutes. They took pictures of each other, yapped with one of the Lone Girl workers, while we waited. Guaranteed we could have gone up to the door or them directly, (my partner did eye them down for a bit making eye contact) but between the waiting and the workers (or customers?) of Lone Girl smoking 🍃 at the outdoor seating, we decided to just call it and leave.
Thankfully, Stellies isn’t located too far from Atwood creamery. A cute, black owned stand, in the Atwood area. We’ve been there before and loved their Babcock icecream, and they came through in clutch again. Maybe one day we’ll give Stellies a chance again, but for now we know a place that’s always been open during their listed business hours. Ice cream pictured is from...
Read moreI really was excited about trying this place as I always try to support new smaller businesses whenever I can .
The design , colors and packaging is all in good taste and almost cute . Flavors upon reading the labels actually sound very interesting.
Unfortunately it ends there . Unless I was mistaken about what I was getting , the quality and flavors fell short . Particularly the quality is low . This did not even taste like ice cream , almost as though it was missing a binder or cream or fat .
The consistency was crumbling , icy particles and unpleasant texture in the mouth . The flavor (at least for what I got the mocha espresso) was almost non existent.
I am not an expert with ice cream production but this was like an icicle non-fat ultra frozen whatever . Very disappointing as I wanted this to be exciting .
Considering the competition around town with extraordinary offerings the bar is very high.
I hope this is just a situation of failed ultra- frozen product that has experienced freezer burn . Sadly I see other reviews are stating the exact...
