Great local neighborhood bar. Best whiskey bar in Madison. Also a very good craft beer selection and great beers on tap. With October almost here I had to stop by Bill's bar to try his Oktoberfest beer on tap and wasn't disappointed. It was great and a good size mug (see pic attached). You can find some of the most unique beer and premium whiskey selections in Madison. Great to support locally owned Madison establishments like the Malt House. There is no food kitchen, but you can get food delivered. Check out the Malt House Facebook page to see what nights local bands are playing here.

Good prices on great beer. There is a budget craft draft. Service from Randy St Bernardus is great, and folks are friendly. Lots of cool breweriana and a small selection of bottles and cans that rotates. Nice selection without being overwhelming. Accessible by bike and transit. Shady patio

This place has a pretty low-key, casual atmosphere. Their scotch selection is about the largest I've seen in Madison, even if they don't have my preferred label.

Very much still resembles the old Union House Tavern, (which is what it used to be,) on the interior; in fact, it retains the refinished original bar. On the outdoor front of the building grounds, there has been a build-out resulting in a great outdoor space with picnic tables and umbrellas. Although the do have mixed drinks at the bar, this place isn't named The Malt House for nothing! All beers are craft beers heer 😎😀 !!! Mostly from local and nearby craft brewers. As for the servers, it would be fair to describe them as "individuals": depending on which one you're dealing with... let's just say, some aren't the type to cozy-up to just everyone, if anyone... ; seemingly selective, those. It wouldn't be unfair of anyone to reflect what your individual experience happens to be with any gratuity that you may (or...

Our softball team went here after the game to hang out and have a few beers. The outside patio was open and the place was absolutely hopping! There's no loud music but plenty of craft beers from just about anywhere you can think of. The staff was busy but very nice (there were only two people working a bar that was just packed). They took the time to acknowledge us and apologize for the wait, something I don't see much at taverns these days. I'll admit I'm a bit of a beer snob and was impressed to see that they even match the glass to the beer style, something you don't see very often anymore.

If you're looking for frat party hangouts, loud obnoxious music, or a dance floor this is not your place. If you enjoy good conversation, great beers and an excellent outside patio then...

What can I say about the Malt House? I literally moved into the neighborhood 7 years ago in large part because of this bar. It is without a doubt the best craft beer bar in Madison, and it has some really stiff competition. Key things to know: This bar has no television. This is a good thing. The outdoor seating is fantastic when it's decent enough to be outside. Parking is limited, but there's plenty of walkable street parking. The live music they have fits the vibe of the place perfectly. This is a bar primarily for enjoying great beverages and having conversations. When there's live music it fits that vibe. There's no food although sometimes a food cart during summer, but you can order or bring...
