Andy’s Café for the past eight years has been one of my favorite places to eat and my husband and I have always enjoyed going there. The food has always been delicious and our favorite waiter Jose always delivered excellent service.
This past Sunday, however, was the last time we will ever go to Andy’s Café. Why? New Ownership. This past Sunday we took our longtime friend with us to enjoy breakfast. We sat in Jose’s section. He was attentive and took our order as usual, however a waiter is at the mercy of the kitchen. In the past it never took more than 10 minutes for our food to arrive. This time it was 15+ minutes leaving the waiter, Jose, to apologize for the disorganization of the kitchen, something which he definitely is not accustomed to. The order arrived incorrect (not Jose's fault) and there was further delay to boot. The only positive thing about the experience was Jose was still employed there and did the best he could under the circumstances. The part-owner, donning unprofessional attire, a Metallica black t-shirt and a backward hat, was very rude in how he was addressing customers, seemed bothered by routine requests and the fact that he had to go out of his way. Many of the patrons were just in disbelief at the new “tone” of the restaurant and its owner. Our table struck up conversation with other patrons who expressed disbelief at the way things were being run. Everyone agreed this would be the last visit.
The food quality was poor, the food arrived late and was not how we ordered it. More importantly was the “just deal with it” side of rudeness that was served up with our food. After we paid our bill, I asked the Metallica t-shirt dressed man if he was the owner and he replied I’m the partial owner. I expressed that my husband and I had been coming here for years and told him about how our food took over 25 minutes, that the order was incorrect and that it was not good. His reply? “Oh, well, sometimes you have to wait.” I then said honestly if you’re part-owner, do you think wearing a Metallica T-shirt and backward hat is appropriate attire? He told me my opinion doesn’t matter and to get out of his restaurant.
I can’t even begin to express our disappointment in Andy’s Café. The only positive thing was Jose, who did the best he could with limited support. We will not be visiting again.
Think twice if you like good service, great tasting food and more importantly common courtesy. What you will be assured of is bad food, long wait times with a side of rudeness. Hope I saved someone a bad experience with...
Read moreBefore it got its title of being the best in Northern IL, this was always my families go to spot for cheap comfort breakfast food. After years of not eating here, my family and I were disappointed to say the least, seeing how poor the service and quality of food had gotten. First, when we arrived, we were told to just “sit wherever” and Miriam just walked away. After sitting ourselves down, it took 10 minutes before Jorge, the main server, attended us. Considering it was not busy at all, we expected to be provided with quick and friendly service. Although Jorge was kind, he checked in on us only one time after our food was served and we never saw him again throughout our stay to the point where I had to be quick in catching him before he moved on after attending a nearby table. Secondly, the food was so incredibly bland it was upsetting. I ordered the french toast with fresh strawberry topping, egg and bacon combo. The eggs were rubbery, the french toast was pretty much just a plain piece of wheat bread, and the strawberries were pretty sour considering they were mainly spoiled. I will say from the party of five, there was one person at the table who enjoyed their meal. Finally, when it came to paying the tab, Miriam didn’t even know where we sat as she asked what number table we were as if we were supposed to know how their layout is, and how many was the party. Talk about great hospitality!
During our time there, there was one server who truly appeared to provide great service to her tables! She seemed very attentive and quick. Wish we had her! Maybe she could give a quick refresher course in service training to the rest of the staff.
Sadly, we will not be...
Read moreIf I could give 0 stars I would. This place was absolutely horrid. I should have walked right back out... when you walk into a breakfast place at primo breakfast time on a Saturday and there's only 4 tables seated...I should've know better. We sat down and asked the waitresses what was the most popular thing...she had no clue, but said the coffee was "amazing"... it was literally hot water....terrible. Then, the food came. I ordered a denver omelet with cheddar. The pancakes were literally ORANGE?!? And there was so much vanilla in them, it literally smelled/tasted like eating a birthday cake...an orange birthday cake! Like, I've never in my life seen orange pancakes, unless they were pumpkin pancakes. The omelet... it was more like a scramble as it was a mess and completely overcooked. I barely ate it. The only thing that was halfway decent were the hash browns. The other issue was the price. Super expensive. For 2 breakfasts with coffee it was $45!! The last thing...it was dirty and old. They clearly never clean under-the-table or the crack between the back of the booth and the seat of the booth. There were crumbs and caked on syrup and everything else there and in the corners of the floor. The décor was some horrible 1980's flower design and the seats were ripped. Ther was a skylight in the middle, that apparently hasnt been cleaned in as long as the rest of the place....just terrible. The ONLY positive thing was the staff. They were all very attentive and nice.
There is NO WAY this place was voted 'best breakfast in Northern Illinois '...unless it was 30yrs ago! 🤢🤢🤮
Don't...
