A Soul-Crushingly Bland Disaster: The Worst Fried Chicken Experience
I have had bad food before, but Fry Chicken ‘N Fries truly outdid itself in the race to the bottom. The crust was crispy, sure, but what’s the point when it had NO FLAVOR?! It was like biting into a crunchy void of disappointment. No salt, no spice, no life—just a soulless shell of wasted potential.
The chicken underneath? Dry, overcooked, and utterly joyless. It’s almost like they dunked it in hot oil and just hoped something magical would happen. Spoiler alert: it didn’t.
And don’t even get me started on the so-called rice bowl. I swear they must have reheated leftover rice from last week because it had a weird, foul smell. It was soggy, stale, and covered in some bizarre sauce that did nothing but highlight how off-puttingly bad the whole dish was.
Fries? Bland. Sauces? Meh. Overall experience? I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.
If you want crispy fried chicken that actually tastes good, save yourself the misery and use this proper recipe instead:
How to Make Crispy, Flavorful Fried Chicken
Ingredients: • 4 bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs (or drumsticks) • 2 cups buttermilk • 1 egg (for extra crispiness) • 1 cup all-purpose flour • 1 cup cornstarch (key to crispiness) • 1 tbsp salt • 1 tbsp black pepper • 1 tbsp garlic powder • 1 tbsp onion powder • 1 tbsp smoked paprika • 1 tsp cayenne pepper (because food should have FLAVOR) • 1 tsp baking powder (for extra crunch) • Vegetable oil (for frying)
Instructions: Marinate the Chicken – Mix buttermilk with salt, black pepper, and paprika. Add the chicken and let it soak for at least 4 hours (overnight is best) to make it juicy and flavorful. Prepare the Coating – In a bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne, and baking powder. Dredge the Chicken – Remove the chicken from the buttermilk, shake off excess liquid, dip it in the flour mixture, then back in buttermilk, then in flour again. This double-coating makes it ultra-crispy. Heat the Oil – In a deep fryer or heavy pan, heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry the Chicken – Place the chicken in the hot oil and fry for 12-15 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Internal temp should reach 165°F (75°C). Drain & Enjoy – Let the chicken rest on a wire rack (NOT paper towels) to keep it crispy.
Now THIS is how you make fried chicken—crispy and packed with flavor. Something Fry Chicken ‘N Fries should learn before serving another round of bland,...
Read moreFirst the owner is super friendly and extra responsible, although it is designed to be fast food there is a dining area and the welcome is very friendly, there are no shortcuts in flavor the owner is taking feedback for portions and flavor rarely you will find a restaurant owner with that type of good attitude. now for the food Chicken is great quality no shortcuts, the flavor excellent, spiced perfectly and not dry, not bready but wonderfully crispy, the fries are great but don't let them sit when taking it to go the moisture makes them soggy, I am considering other reviews and I have to be fair and honest that way we see this restaurant stay for many years to come, I ordered the burger and usually the best burger is well portioned and spiced correctly the spice was perfect but the portion was smaller then expected and that is ok because the owner is taking constructive criticism, The rice is well seasoned The sauces are amazing
Now for the price the tenders are priced perfectly you cannot get cheaper then that without reducing quality, sandwiches need work the portion to price ratio is not the best but we should see improvements since they are just starting, I will try more of the menu periodically and update I wish you the best and success.
Update: What can I say more then it is a pleasure to see an owner with so much care and hands on customer service, The menu is updated Brand new burgers, bone in fried chicken Top, Top Quality the cleanliness is unmatched for a fast food chicken spot hands down the cleanest and best presented location, I tryed the New Burgers and Rizo smokey bowl. An updated score on the burger. 10/10 the size has been adjusted and the flavor is making, it's like eating a BBQ sandwich but really I have to say no missing flavor in these burgers. First the fluffy and firm bun is perfect, enough to The jalapeño burger flavor and spice you get the smokey flavor from the meat plus the spicy pickle which is lightly added but you can taste the flavor. The BBQ single cheese burger, made fresh every day in house a must try that is amazing flavors.
Thank you for an...
Read moreWent to try this place as per recommendation. We have been welcomed by someone who has been talking on the phone with her earbuds on. She just paused to take our order, but you would think, being first timers, she would take time to explain how special their chicken is and since we are the only customers at that time. She is so quick to get our order because she needs to be back on the phone. And true enough, after we placed our order, she was talking the whole time, in her language! Which i thought was very rude, who knows if she is talking about their customers! Mind you, the place is so quiet, no music and all we hear is her chatting loud on the phone the whole time. She stopped only when the manager arrived. This is not a good customer service at all! Let's get to the food, I have tried a lot of chicken places and I must say, this is just so-so, Nothing too special about it except if you need to eat halal. That's probably why they are expensive, which i can understand. Freshly cooked fried chicken is always gonna be good anywhere you go! They cut the chicken breasts into two (kinda like breaking a wing to make it two pieces), but in fairness all the cuts are of the same size. Too much chicken batter/breading for me that doesn't have any flavor to it. They are selling variety of sauces to flavor your chicken but they are so expensive for the size. $0.99 for maybe about 1-tbsp size of sauce is a rip-off to me. They give you free sauce depending on the quantity of chicken you order. We bought 7 pieces of fried chicken and it only comes with 2 sauces, which would not be enough considering the batter you have to sauce before you get to the actual chicken meat. Fries are good but they put lemon pepper seasoning to it. Coleslaw was good. I would give this place a try again someday to try other food item but I will not be in a...
