I just happened to be in town, and have always heard that the Chicago area has a vibrant Latino community. As a lover of traditional Latin American and Mexican food, I just had to find a nice little 'mom & pop' joint because I prefer to support small businesses. Very nice small place with a about 6-8 tables. I think it was a husband and wife who run it, they were very pleasant, and the woman who took my order was also patient and kind with my awful Spanish. I am pretty sure she spoke English, but the conversation somehow happened in Spanish. Got a couple tacos, chili rellenos and chorizo, and then a torta barbacoa. Everything was excellent and tasted like it was made fresh to order, of which I am certain it was. There were so many things on the menu that I wanted to try, but I would never be able to eat it all. I wish we had places like this back home in Pennsylvania where I live. I may be a gringo, but to me this was some of the best traditional Mexican food I have ever had. I highly...
Read moreThey didn't have a veggie burrito on the menu, but had a rice burrito listed. I asked if they can do a "veggie burrito" with fajitas and they said yes. The person at the front was very kind the entire time. When I went to pay, the $8.25 burrito came out to over $13 because they had charged $4.25 for added fajitas. I was surprised and said "wow a $13 burrito". As I left, the person at the front noticed I wasn't too happy about this and called the manager from the back to show him the transaction. When I got in my car, they waved me back in, told me they had charged too much, and gave me a partial refund. Had it not been for their awesome customer service, I would have left and probably never gone back. Overall, the burrito was ok, the chips and salsa were solid, and the service was top notch. I'm sure they have some other good food choices, and I'll probably go back because of their...
Read moreWe have been coming to this restaurant from many years. Never had problem with their food. But today was very disappointing. Not with their food but with their employee on front. I went there today at 8:15pm with my family of 4 ( wife and 2 little kids). As soon as we went inside the girl at the front desk was not welcoming. She did not even smiled or greeted us. She was asking us do you know what to order or you want menus with bad attitude. I smiled and say I need menu and she was forcing us to order food and I was like give me 2 min. She punched on her table and rolled her eyes. I looked around the restaurant but there was no one except us. I just got up and left the restaurant. I was crazy mad but controlled and decided to go to Al-Bawadi. I want to say I don’t want to ever go back to this restaurant, good luck...
