By far the best Chinese style mixed fruit cream cake in the area! I have been in search of a bakery for cream cake after my favorite one on Chinatown closed. I have tried looking in Chinatown and west of Boston with no success in duplicating that cake. This place does the job. Chiffon cake is light and moist, fresh whipped cream is lightly sweetened, and there is plenty of ripe strawberries, peaches, and melon. The layers stay together nicely, and no one element us overwhelming. SO GOOD! It took me 35 minutes one way to get to the bakery by cat, but I will happily drive there again when I need another cream cake.
I ordered the cake over the phone, and the process was fast and easy. Pick up was also easy (10am on Saturday). I found a metered parking spot right in front of the bakery! I could never get that in Chinatown.
They also have fresh pastries, roll cakes, and other items, as well as bags of steamed bao in the fridge case. I got custard buns, egg tarts, pineapple buns, sesame balls, and BBQ pork buns. All were delicious, but I was so happy with the sesame balls. The sesame balls were puffy, round balls of goodness. They held their ball shape (no deflating) and were the perfect thickness of...
Read moreI would give zero stars if I could. This was by far the worst dining experience I’ve ever had. I’m Cantonese and grew up eating authentic BBQ meats, so I know what they’re supposed to taste like. What they served here was nowhere close — not authentic, not fresh, and honestly inedible. The chicken tasted like it was several days old, even though they claimed everything was made that day. Every dish was overly salty and oily. I also ordered half a BBQ duck to go, and when I got home, I discovered it was basically just neck and bones and the head— no breast, no legs, no wings. Completely misleading and unacceptable. I ended up throwing most of it away. To make matters worse, eating the food gave me rashes on my face and neck, which only happens when I eat food that isn’t fresh. Don’t be fooled by the good reviews — they are not reflective of the reality here. This was the worst BBQ meat I’ve ever had in the US (or anywhere else). Save yourself the...
Read moreI tried this Cantonese fast food spot many times, and while the prices are quite reasonable, I can’t recommend it for the food quality. If you’re visiting, you’re better off sticking to the desserts rather than the main dishes.
The food hygiene is seriously lacking. My char siu chicken still had feathers, which was really off-putting. The duck had noticeable glands, giving it a strong, unpleasant odor that was borderline nauseating. It’s clear that the ingredients are not properly cleaned or prepared with care.
For a place that serves such affordable meals, I wasn’t expecting fine dining, but basic cleanliness is non-negotiable. Unfortunately, I won’t be coming back for anything other than...
