I just went today (11/28) to do some grocery shopping at stop and shop. The service was atrocious. It seems they don’t bother to train their staff. Or if they do, customer satisfaction is obviously not on the list. When I went to get my items checked out, I tried to get the cashiers attention since she was too preoccupied talking with another cashier behind her, and it was obviously not anything important or store-related. The cashier, Christella, retorted angrily, telling us to “Wait! Be patient”. Then, when she started finally doing her work, the salads that we bought had a coupon on them but they had to be peeled off. She told us to peel it off(and in a very disrespectful manner too), and I asked if she could. I mean, what’s the point of hiring a cashier if she can’t even do that? She said she couldn’t and called another person over. That women that she called over peeled it, but not before rattling off about how we were making a fuss and making it seem like it was our fault. She accused us of raising our voices for no reason, even thought it was the Christella person that initiated the conflict. The women called over immediately put the blame on us without ever thinking about trying to understand the situation first. She just asked the cashier for her side of the story, and when we tried to say something she just said that we were wrong and that we should stop talking since she already “resolved it”. What happened to” the customer is always right”? Not to mention that, I don’t think it was an unreasonable request to have the cashier do her own job? Especially during COVID where we really want to avoid contact. Not only was Christella not responsible for her job and talking to others while on shift, and in the presence of customers who were patiently waiting, but she also handled the situation very poorly and disrespectfully, as if she was such a “prized” worker that nobody would ever fire her. The women that she called over(I don’t know if she was the manager or just another worker) also did n out whelp to resolve the situation and instead decided to further escalate it by blindly supporting her coworker. This has overall been a very dissatisfying experience here. It doesn’t matter how “great” the products they have at Stop and Shop. All of this sours in comparison, when you realize that they don’t even bother training their workers to have basic manners and respect. Not just cause we are customers. But because we are all humans. She treated us as if we were little kids who couldn’t decide for ourselves what was right and what was wrong for ourselves(just cause we are Asian???). This is not only just outright disrespect and refusal to acknowledge their wrongdoings. They are literally giving off the feeling that we are inferior to them and not worth listening too. I didn’t want to waste my time here typing this which I doubt the store will even take action after reading. But people need to know, not only of the attitudes of the customer service here. But also that COVID doesn’t give you an excuse to racially discriminate or belittle others. We are all equal, and at this point, I’m not even asking them to treat me like a “valuable” customer. Read more2024 Update: this is just the only convenient grocery store for me and I continue to be disappointed if not literally disgusted when I go here. At least 3 times I have gone home with expired products. I've walked through the produce section to see ALL the fruit covered in fuzzy mold. This last time I got an expired item, I technically had the time to go back for a refund/exchange. I mentioned how I used it in a dish before I noticed the date and therefore wasted lots of other ingredients, and the fact I had to go out twice in an hour for the same thing. She said sorry but simply refunded the item and sent me on my sick to my stomach way. This store is a disgrace, it should be evaluated for health and safety and the staff needs to be retrained or paid more to care. At the very least a customer should get a store credit when you send them home with unsafe food.
Pretty disappointed with my last visit here- I went through the self check out with an item listed as one price that rang in as another much more expensive price. It's the state law and within Stop and Shop policy to adjust the price when this happens then change the tag, no big deal. There were 2 women working the self checkout, woman 1 wasn't going to help me at all and woman 2 was very snippy and rude. I went back to take a picture of it and when I was showing them the picture, woman 2 takes my phone out of my hand to look closer but I wasn't handing her my phone, its frankly unacceptable to grab a customers phone out of their hand. She mentioned she's worked there since 2015 so I'm confused why there was any issue to adjusting the price at all. Then she says she has to "write this down" and takes it away for 5 minutes while I wait for it's return. Then I tell her she just voided it and she needs to scan it still but she assures me she rang it in at the right price- which she didn't ring it in at all. She says "patience is a virtue" but I don't appreciate spending half my lunch break in a check out line for stop and shop to fix the issue they created. I was incredibly nice the entire interaction, and I wasn't wrong- I used to work at a stop and shop. So at the end of the day, I got it for free but the entire interaction was unnecessarily uncomfortable and I hope the staff can at least be fully trained on the laws in Massachusetts. The manager Eric who I know who use to work at stop n shop revere was rude there too and got kicked out of there now he’s in Malden and is ruder than he was before. I am in nursing school I lost my husband to cancer and I am raising 2 kids. when i went to pay for my food it accidentally clicked cash vs food. It was 1129pm at the time. I asked if we could return my items and I will re scan myself. the employee said no come back tomorrow. I said excuse me can you get a manager it’s as simple as scanning the receipt and returning the customer. I spend so much money at stop n shop this month I have 3000 gas points. the employee went over to the girl already she said to her this girl wants to return her stuff on her ebt card we can’t do it. I said listen you’re going to tell me no one can return their stuff. she no. The manager eric walked as she was talking to him and he said no the service desk is closed next time watch how you pay for it. He said this x 2 now. So they told me to keep the 152 dollars in groceries and bring it back tomorrow to get refunded . The girl said i will have to manually put this stuff in and we close in 30 mins. i got 3 diff answers in 2 mins. if they dislike people and their jobs that much they shouldn’t be working here.
