5/5 Stars: A Top-Notch Deli & Taproom in Historic Manassas
This place is a gem! My buddy Gary and I made the trip and were blown away. Doug's Deli & Taproom is exactly what it claims to be: a fantastic, clean, well-lit deli that serves excellent craft beer. It genuinely feels like a quality deli first, with the taproom being a great bonus.
The atmosphere is perfect—it’s modern and current, comfortable and intimate. It’s built into a beautiful historic building (even registered on the National Register of Historic Places), with two levels and a cool upstairs loft area with tables and a second bar. We loved the unique decor, which includes posters of The Beatles and Van Halen, plus electric guitars and a snare drum mounted on the walls. Every detail, right down to the impeccably neat and organized coolers behind the main bar, shows the owner's care. Even the round blue and white sign outside is stylish and photo-worthy.
The Food and Service: I ended up trying the Hot Pepper Italian sandwich and it was fantastic; Gary loved his Egg Salad sandwich. All sandwiches are served with chips and a pickle, which is a great touch. The young service staff was outstanding—professional, friendly, and engaging, and they made our visit fun.
The Commitment: A huge shout-out to John, the owner (carrying on a family tradition named after his grandfather/great-grandfather "Doug"). They opened in 2020, and the fact that they are thriving and running such a solid business shows incredible commitment given the stresses of the COVID vortex on the food service industry. John clearly pours his effort into making this business viable and right.
Logistics: The atmosphere is family-friendly and welcomes all ages (though you may see a younger set, older guys like us felt completely at home). There is ample, free 2-hour parking across the street (weekdays during business hours, but open outside of those hours).
We will absolutely be driving back to visit again!...
Read moreI am a new teacher for Manassas City Public Schools, and today amongst teacher training we had a lunch break and I ended up at this awesome place. I am glad I ended up here. It's a super cool place, and I am a beer aficionado , so I was pleased to see beers here that I have never tried. Of course, I was working so I couldn't indulge, but I will be back. I ordered a French Dip minus the provolone and it arrived promptly, as ordered, with an ample cup of succulent au jus. Folks, this sandwich was amazing! The bread seemed like a thinned out ciabatta, and was a perfect, warm compliment to the tender, generous sliced beef and aforementioned au jus. The sandwich was so nice and warm that I let it cool off for a bit and indulged in the potato chips and the crunchy dill pickle that accompanied the meal. The food was heavenly, the environment was amazing, and the guy behind the counter was affable and helpful. They have a wide selection of gourmet hot dogs, including a Chicago Dog, that Iam dying to try with an ice cold IPA and a whole roll of Tums! This is an excellent local place, and I will...
Read moreI’ve been holding off on writing a review until I’ve tried a good amount of the menu. My final consensus is that they know how to make amazing sandwiches and subs. My favorite so far has been the Reuben, but the Dirty Doug is a close second. I’m also addicted to their tomato soup.
I introduced this place to my work, and we’ve been ordering from there at least once a week. The only food items I would give caution when it comes to ordering are the salads. Some of the greens were wilted and brown, but the meat and dressing were still on point. Another issue I’ve had came from ordering soups or with the French dip broth. They taste amazing, but 9 times out of 10 they spill in the bag and cause a mess. I would suggest wrapping them individually in plastic bags. Pleeeease try this place, you...
