Kite's Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Manhattan

I was hoping to have a good report of Kite's but...no. I visited with an out-of-town guest on the afternoon of 9/30/23. There were less than 10 other patrons present at the time. After being "served" by front end manager/bartender, Evan, I vowed to never return. Leaving two subsequent follow-up phone messages and one Facebook Messenger chat, the restaurant owner has not responded to my request for callback.

Long story short, Manager Evan displayed poor bartending skills and poor customer service. He delivered to me an $8 top self cocktail in small Bud Light branded plastic cup. My companion ordered a $6 White Claw delivered in a can. The check was $14. I signed, left $0 tip (there was more to the poor service story), and departed. Imagine my surprise when I reviewed my bank account the next day and found a charge of $18. I can only suppose Evan added an (undeserved) $4 tip. Beware if you dine/drink at this establishment and check your bank account.

*Update: After the owner's response online, I found Google reviews would not accept a response. So, I contacted Kite's and spoke with Evan who informed me he was "aware of the situation" and would be returning $18, my entire check. After informing him I would only wanted a refund of $4 and that I would like a call from the owner. I explained that the online response to my review including card info was not appropriate and that I had left my personal # three times with requests for a call. This made my 4th request.

The refund immediately appeared in my online banking after ending the call with Evan.

If you want decent bar food with reliable and fast service, this is not the place for you.

By all accounts, the food does taste good at the time - what it does to you afterward is not worth it, though. The rest of the night was spent taking turns sprinting to the bathroom to void ourselves of the curse that is half-priced burgers.

Speaking of bathrooms, if you're looking to purge yourself, simply walk into the bathroom at Kite's. The musty odor that slams into your nostrils, a combination of stale vomit and unflushed feces, should stimulate a proper visceral response. Don't stand in one space too long, though, your feet may become cemented to the floor and you will be left to your own devices against the ravenous fly population.

However, what really makes this place dive to the deep end of the cesspool is the awful excuse for service. Our waitress spent the better part of our visit ignoring us. Roughly 1 in 3 requests were just ignored and our food came out seemingly at random, with the one salad ordered in our party coming out a solid 20 minutes after the rest of the food. When we all decided it was time to leave, dear waitress displayed excellent hide-and-go-seek skills, managing to avoid our search for another 10-15 minutes. We were simply shocked to find that none of the tickets were correct, but made sure to include 16% gratuity.

I was trying to figure out the correct words to say this, but there aren't any.. This establishment does like people who aren't white, period!!! Racist!!!!! Everyone working had horrible "customer service" It's was definitely clear from the time we walked in, to the time we decided to cut our family time short at this place because of the rude and disrespect from servers, the cook and bartenders. The server decided to finally come to our table after about 15 mins as he was talking and laughing with the bartenders. So when he did finally come to our table, he was rude, rushing us to order, skipping people at the table for their orders, some of our items we asked for, we never received but was still charged for. He would cut people off when trying to order or walk away while we were trying to order. He was beyond rude when I asked for limes. He said that we had enough (3 limes to share for a table of 9) and that we should use our imaginations for things we asked for.. So after that comment is when we decided to leave. There was more to this, but I would be writing a novel.. This place doesn't deserve any stars!!! Won't ever go back to any of these establishments that are all under the same owners in Manhattan they know...
