Bud Willman's Lunch — Restaurant in Manitowoc

Stopped here during a road trip with my son in 2022. Wanted my son to experience having an old fashioned style burger. Bud Williams delivered! When you walk in, it definitely had the feel of stepping into an old soda shop from the 50's. From the fixed stools at the counter, to the old solid booths and tables. The aesthetics were exactly what I was lookin for! The burgers, fries and shakes were excellent and so fresh! However, I wasn't very pleased about the a la carte menu. They did have a written special for a burger, fries and coke but we wanted shakes and our waiter was clear about no substitutions. So, we had to order a la carte. Walked out spending only about $20 plus a tip but we didn't really leave physically satisfied. We both could've eaten more. So, the prices were just fine but the portions could've been bigger. When you order a double cheeseburger, fries and a chocolate shake, you expect to get a big burger, a basket of fries and a shake that fills the malt tin. The burgers were quite small. Even my double was gone in 4 bites. Was about the same size as a McD's double cheese. The fries came in a tiny basket. Maybe 20-25 fries tops. Also, about the size of a small order for McD's. The shakes weren't much bigger. Was hoping to get more for my buck but it's not the 1950's! Needless to say, we had to eat again in the next town but we were very satisfied with quality and taste of the food! If you visit here and you're hungry, order everything large and order 2 doubles! Worst burgers ever. I don't understand how this place got such great reviews... maybe they changed cooks recently or something? This was my second time stopping by because I wanted to give them another chance to impress me. But this time was the same as last: thin, flavorless burger patties and completely unseasoned french fries. I couldn't even taste the meat in my burger. And after I took a look at the cooks pressing down on the patties with their spatulas, squeezing all the flavorful fat out of them, I understood why.
