Probably great place to eat if you like cheap food and don't expect the service and quality you'd get at a gastropub closer to Milwaukee and its suburbs.
I've worked at two gastropubs, So when I saw there was one near my friend I was helping for the day I got excited, seeing that they served high quality ingredients, had depth to most of their menu. When I walked in I was kind of taken back by the idea of seating ourselves (Probably because I'm not from the Area I admit). Then I was more shocked to see how cheap the food was and should have made a connection there.
I feel like my bad experience here was due to my expectations associating Gastropub with quality of food and service when this restaurant doesn't cater to the same niche that that term carriers in most large cities. If you want Well prepared food with quality service and accommodations go to Brix a few minutes away. The ingredients on the menu look less classy but they prepare them well.
Still the Crispy Tofu was great!
The fired Cheese was an abomination that even my friend and her younger sister (still in school) would not eat
The majority of the brussels sprouts came out burnt. Having made them myself at several restaurants I know there is a 20-30 second window between Perfectly cooked and Burnt, which would have been fine and okay if the manager/server had not been combative about my request for a re-fire. If you can't make something without burning it I feel personally it probably shouldn't go on the menu.
I asked for modifications to my burger, No bun severed on a bed of lettuce, sub pico de gio for tomatoes, The server was unsure if they could do that and at that point I was so flustered and confused I was rude and asked if the cooks had two hands and a brain.
I definitely have expectations having worked in restaurants for over 9 years and with my Autism and the fact I wasn't planning to go somewhere cheap, hadn't done my research I built the idea of going out to eat up in my head and was not happy with my experience. The server/manager did not take me seriously at all and did not understand my expectations until I mentioned I had autism while holding myself trying not to cry (failing). If someone has a problem with the way their order is being handled and their food is prepared it shouldn't matter their mental condition.
The prices are comparable to culvers cheaper even if you were to be a non tipper. Had I gone in with a slop shop mindset with a friend at night I'm sure I could have had a good time, though if I were looking for cheap food and drink I wouldn't be looking for a gastropub.
They did comp my whole meal and were very kind after it was obvious I was having a meltdown but the entire experience still...
Read moreI was excited that a new place opened up in town with a more expanded menu than most of the normal menu's in town. (Burger, Burger, chicken, and patty melt)
First impression upon walking in cozy, more of a local bar cozy than a restaurant. After 5 min or so flagged down a waitress to get a table. Was told it is first come first serve for open seats.(No reservation or such) Looked around and there are only 6-8 tables in the place. (All were full, as were all the seats at the bar, so 40-50 total chairs) It took us 30 minutes to finally locate 2 open seats. Then we got menus and ordered within 10 minutes. This should be an easy order Korean Tacos and a Pad Thai, 60 minutes later we asked the staff and they said just a few more minutes. So we changed it to a to go order got it about 10 minutes later (note we had been there now for nearly 2 hours, we just went there for dinner, on a weekday even)
I read other reviews and yes the portion sizes are smaller than most of the other local places, by about 50% and cost about 50% more. That would be fine with me, if they had more quality than a McDonald's meal, which they didn't. The best description I can come up with is blah, like they did not use any spices. I would say if you have a "Chicago/World" palette, this place will let you down. If you have a local palette it will be different and probably great. This last comment is not to be mean or rude, just after living in the area for only 10 years, I have meet many locals who would not try many of the "exotic" ( =other than a burger) dishes on the menu. Ryan's will attract the 30-40% who are more adventurous eaters.
After being there over an hour and having time to look around. I think they are confused about being a bar or a restaurant. If they removed the 4-6 video poker games, the dart board and the pool table (pool table: which when the bar is full would be hard to use because of the people around it looking for a place to sit.) They could fit in up to another 10 tables or so. But then meals would also need to come out of the closet sized kitchen much faster or the wait could be twice as long.
This place is in my backyard, so I will go back in the next 6 months to give it...
Read moreCame here on a Saturday around lunch time. When my wife and I seated ourselves at the bar, the place was about half full, and we got our food order in relatively efficiently. As we waited, the place started to pick up and most of the seating filled up. They started cautioning orders ahead of us that it would be over an hour wait time for the food. There's two problems here: 1. We were never warned of a wait time, even though we still ended up waiting over an hour for our food as well, and 2. You're a small place, and this seemed like a normal lunch rush, nothing excessive--how are 1+ hour wait times acceptable for lunch?
Sadly this wasn't the only issue. The music was obnoxiously loud at times for being noon on a Saturday. As we waited over an hour for food, there was very little check in, apology, or reassurance from the bartenders--the whole hour they just continued to just look right past us and ignore us. The food was decent, but not great. The fries had a bit of a burnt oil taste to them.
There are a few positives: While not good enough to be worth the wait, the food was still good. Aside from the fries being a bit off-tasting, my burger was done nicely. Prices are reasonable for the quality. The atmosphere, if it wasn't so loud, is decent. The bartenders--when not ignoring us--were very nice and appeared to be mindful in their drink-making.
We'll probably give this place a second chance at some point, but honestly just better communication with customers and better efficiency in getting food out would solve most of these issues. Waiting over an hour for two lunch entrees and fries, when we ordered before the place even filled up,...
