I was excited to see a revolving sushi bar that would mean I wouldn't have to make the trip all the way out to Kura, but honestly I'm pretty disappointed. I understand the place has only just opened, but there are some major flaws here in the design and execution.

The labels on the belt come first in a cup, followed by the sushi on plates that can be simply picked up or put down at will.

For the most part, the belt is pretty much empty, very sparse amount of food actually going past and what was going by was the same plates for the entire hour that we were there.

Often there was mislabeled plates, spicy California rolls behind the watermelon label, which begs the question if someone picked it up and decided they didn't want it and put it back. Gross.

What sushi I did pick up did not have a very appetizing smell, the salmon was clearly rancid and I had to send it back with a server. The food I ordered from the tablet was good, but it took 10-15 minutes to arrive.

They seem overstaffed with waiters everywhere and a kitchen full of cooks, but getting any service was like pulling teeth and the belt lacked the amount of fresh food you would expect from so many "busy" cooks.

Each booth has pretty high privacy walls, and there is frosted glass between our table and the other side of the conveyer, which makes it unrealistic that waiters or even guests would be able to keep track of whether or not others are touching, or picking up food and putting it back on the conveyer.

From the taste and warm, room temperature sushi I picked up off the belt I also wonder if service is bothering to pick up plates that have been in circulation for too long.

Overall I probably won't go back, esp considering each plate is almost a dollar more than Kura. If the food had been sufficiently executed, or if the privacy walls were removed or even better if locking plates were added to the belt I would consider returning.

Until then this place has a lot of...

A sign that a sushi place isn't that good: they can't even spell the name of their restaurant in Japanese right. It's supposed to be あかりい. I went in extremely excited that we finally had a revolving sushi bar in Mansfield and that I could get it local instead of making the trip to a Kura. But I was beyond disappointed.

The conveyer belt has an awful selection, only about ten different types of sushi was on it. There would literally be feet of nothing. And most of them did not have labels that told you what they were when I went. I ordered the umami oil seared beef and seared beef with yakiniku sauce, and they were dreadful. They shouldn't even be raw, but for some reason they were. The inari and chicken gyoza was fine, but really it could have been better. I could have gone to Kroger and gotten gyoza that was on the same level there.

Sanitation is also an issue I worry about, because unlike Kura, you can grab sushi off the conveyer belt and then put it right back on. All they have covering the plates is a plastic cup that people mess with, because you'll see plates of sushi where the cup is coming off and no longer protecting the sushi.

When you order something specifically a chef has to put it on a tray and push it to you and watch as you grab it, then pull it back. Only their aim must not be that good, because the manager actually came and told me to move because he couldn't push it close enough to me and I had to pull the tray a little closer to grab my stuff.

Overall if you want to experience revolving sushi, make the trip to Kura as it's far superior and also cheaper. Seriously, its almost $3 a plate at Akarii but only about 2.35 a plate at Kura! Otherwise, go to a different...

My wife and I went today on the recommendation of friends and coworkers, and have to say, it wasn't up to expectation. I know the location is fairly new, and in the interest of being constructive, and hopes that they're reading reviews, I'd like to detail some points that may be considered.

To start with the positive, your front of house staff is polite, attentive, and informative for new customers. The decorations are attractive and tastefully minimal, seating/tables are adequate (a bit straight backed for my liking), and price is what I would expect from a revolving plate restaurant.

Moving to where you lost us, your rice seems to have been prepped, rolled and stored well before the rolls were served on the line. As in, hours before. It's texture was overly firm and moisture was lacking. The imitation crab you use is like something I've never had before, and not in a good way. If I were to make a comparison, it would be to canned tuna in water. Stringy, dry, and with a curious odor that always seems to come along with canned meats. Finally, the breaded/fried rolls. Either because of being placed inside the covered plates still hot, perhaps just because of how long they were in the rotation, or because oil temp wasn't high enough, every fried roll we tried had lost all crispness and was a flat chewy breading with an oil saturation that overpowered every other flavor in the roll.

You've got a great location, building, and staff, but as it sits, the rice and imitation crab quality will...

Its just reopened, young staff doing their best, and cooks putting in effort. Then there's me, I'm a germaphobe with a weak stomache but I can deal with it. Whoever is cleaning the table didnt do it thoroughly and made it seem more like a simple wipe down. While eating I noticed 2 more stains other than the image of what I saw as soon as I sat down but I won't count those since it could be from my group. Do take into account that they're short staffed. The menu is pretty diverse, they have several different kinds of sushi on the conveyor belt, as well as a tablet of sorts on the side of the table to order things not related to sushi, such as ramen, don, and desert. Though for drinks, they have green tea and water, my group only asked for water so I'm not sure how many drinks there are; but they certainly don't have ginger tea. This may be the first time I remembered to ask for ginger tea when eating sushi, because today I remembered that I needed to be careful. I believe that having ginger tea available would be great since customers with a better memory than me would know that they need to drink it after eating sushi. It's also good since it lessens the chances of customers complaining about stomachaches. (I personally recommend sweet ginger tea since I prefer it over bland green tea) Overall nice place, the employees just need more time to practice and gain experience is all I can say that needs improvement.

Our first revolving sushi restaurant was at “Kura” in Carrollton. This place was popular. Our Japanese friend took us there. We had to stand in line for three stools by the counter. A revolving sushi restaurant in Mansfield? That's exciting! Akira's interior was one of the best among Mansfield restaurants. The design was modern and elegant. Not traditional Japanese. Very tasteful. The restroom was clean. The seating was not stools, but full-sized booths. You face your dining companions, not the conveyor belt. The seating was more comfortable than the stools. There was a touchscreen display next to the conveyor belt. So customers can order dishes not on the conveyor belt. I was not too fond of it. Other customers touch the screen. I’m being hyper-sensitive. Many customers and staff touch non-electronic menu books too. We had two kinds of sushi from the conveyor belt. One plate of "spicy avocado tuna". And one plate of "spicy avocado salmon". Good, but only better than the grocery store. We wanted to try more, but the selection was sparse. We ordered from the touch-screen display. One bowl of “shoyu ramen” and one shrimp tempura udon. Much better. The ramen was too salty for me. The udon was great. I recommend it. In conclusion, Akira is an interesting dining experience for Mansfield.

They have a neat digital camera thermometer when you enter. You stand up to it and it will measure your temperature before entering. Went here for lunch a little after noon and it was somewhat busy. Seating was spaced out, concept of revolving sushi was great. You could pull from the revolving line or you could order from the tablet. That was the good part about the experience, the sushi on the other hand wasn't all that great. We had 2 adults and 2 kids and finished only 14 plates which had anywhere from 2 pieces to 4 pieces of sushi on it. The ric was a little firmer then I am used to, fish wasn't all that fresh, Salmon Nigiri was chewy, when it is fresh it melts in your mouth. Service was ok, they came by to pick up around the table, checked drinks, I pushed the service button but they never came by and by the time they did we were done. Edamame got cold fast and the salt they used didn't cover it that well. Miso soup was on the sweeter side but a good portion size for the price. Overall a good experience but wasn't a fan of the sushi.
