I was excited to see a revolving sushi bar that would mean I wouldn't have to make the trip all the way out to Kura, but honestly I'm pretty disappointed. I understand the place has only just opened, but there are some major flaws here in the design and execution.
The labels on the belt come first in a cup, followed by the sushi on plates that can be simply picked up or put down at will.
For the most part, the belt is pretty much empty, very sparse amount of food actually going past and what was going by was the same plates for the entire hour that we were there.
Often there was mislabeled plates, spicy California rolls behind the watermelon label, which begs the question if someone picked it up and decided they didn't want it and put it back. Gross.
What sushi I did pick up did not have a very appetizing smell, the salmon was clearly rancid and I had to send it back with a server. The food I ordered from the tablet was good, but it took 10-15 minutes to arrive.
They seem overstaffed with waiters everywhere and a kitchen full of cooks, but getting any service was like pulling teeth and the belt lacked the amount of fresh food you would expect from so many "busy" cooks.
Each booth has pretty high privacy walls, and there is frosted glass between our table and the other side of the conveyer, which makes it unrealistic that waiters or even guests would be able to keep track of whether or not others are touching, or picking up food and putting it back on the conveyer.
From the taste and warm, room temperature sushi I picked up off the belt I also wonder if service is bothering to pick up plates that have been in circulation for too long.
Overall I probably won't go back, esp considering each plate is almost a dollar more than Kura. If the food had been sufficiently executed, or if the privacy walls were removed or even better if locking plates were added to the belt I would consider returning.
Until then this place has a lot of...
Read moreA sign that a sushi place isn't that good: they can't even spell the name of their restaurant in Japanese right. It's supposed to be あかりい. I went in extremely excited that we finally had a revolving sushi bar in Mansfield and that I could get it local instead of making the trip to a Kura. But I was beyond disappointed.
The conveyer belt has an awful selection, only about ten different types of sushi was on it. There would literally be feet of nothing. And most of them did not have labels that told you what they were when I went. I ordered the umami oil seared beef and seared beef with yakiniku sauce, and they were dreadful. They shouldn't even be raw, but for some reason they were. The inari and chicken gyoza was fine, but really it could have been better. I could have gone to Kroger and gotten gyoza that was on the same level there.
Sanitation is also an issue I worry about, because unlike Kura, you can grab sushi off the conveyer belt and then put it right back on. All they have covering the plates is a plastic cup that people mess with, because you'll see plates of sushi where the cup is coming off and no longer protecting the sushi.
When you order something specifically a chef has to put it on a tray and push it to you and watch as you grab it, then pull it back. Only their aim must not be that good, because the manager actually came and told me to move because he couldn't push it close enough to me and I had to pull the tray a little closer to grab my stuff.
Overall if you want to experience revolving sushi, make the trip to Kura as it's far superior and also cheaper. Seriously, its almost $3 a plate at Akarii but only about 2.35 a plate at Kura! Otherwise, go to a different...
Read moreMy wife and I went today on the recommendation of friends and coworkers, and have to say, it wasn't up to expectation. I know the location is fairly new, and in the interest of being constructive, and hopes that they're reading reviews, I'd like to detail some points that may be considered.
To start with the positive, your front of house staff is polite, attentive, and informative for new customers. The decorations are attractive and tastefully minimal, seating/tables are adequate (a bit straight backed for my liking), and price is what I would expect from a revolving plate restaurant.
Moving to where you lost us, your rice seems to have been prepped, rolled and stored well before the rolls were served on the line. As in, hours before. It's texture was overly firm and moisture was lacking. The imitation crab you use is like something I've never had before, and not in a good way. If I were to make a comparison, it would be to canned tuna in water. Stringy, dry, and with a curious odor that always seems to come along with canned meats. Finally, the breaded/fried rolls. Either because of being placed inside the covered plates still hot, perhaps just because of how long they were in the rotation, or because oil temp wasn't high enough, every fried roll we tried had lost all crispness and was a flat chewy breading with an oil saturation that overpowered every other flavor in the roll.
You've got a great location, building, and staff, but as it sits, the rice and imitation crab quality will...
