Mooyah burger touts itself as a family burger experience, attempting to pass its quality, decor and prices as slightly above fast food. That $10/head price-point is a sweet spot in a burgeoning niche of fast food places, where "combos" no longer exist and you assemble a meal and sides in a fast-paced low-impact family delicatessen experience.
The good: Sweet potato fries, wide selection of beverages and shakes.
The meh: Decent selection of burger toppings, they kept the place VERY clean despite it being quite busy.
The ugly: Terrible customer service (see below, we had a manager-non-resolution), burgers a bit greasy, 8-10 minute wait for the food after waiting in line to order.
Mooyah's burgers average $4-5 for the basic burger and condiments, plus $1 per "special" add-on, $3 for fries, and $2 for a soda or $4 for a shake. They have several order stations set up along the entry line to expedite the ordering experience a-la Which Wich, which works.
We walked in with a coupon from a mailer that allowed for "2 free burgers" if we liked the location on facebook and texted some marketing code. The cashier pointed to a homemade sign saying "only one coupon" and told us we couldn't get 2 burgers with our coupon, only one. I showed him the "two free burgers" and he called his manager over, Natalie, who wouldn't make eye contact with us, refused to answer our questions, and told him "I don't care what the coupon says, only one free burger per person".
We started off the visit on the wrong foot.
The three of us ordered, got our free burger, and waited. The place was packed, we probably waited 8-10 minutes to get our food. Not so fast. In the meantime, we discovered that neither restroom has a child changing table. So much for "family". I ended up changing a diaper on the floor of the men's room, which was passably clean.
The food: our burgers were all quite greasy, but good. They offer a decently wide selection of add-on ingredients. The regular fries were overcooked (she wouldn't eat them, and my pregnant wife can put fries away), but the sweet potato fries were cooked to perfection. They were delicious, however they came out cold. We had a mint chocolate chip shake that was delicious, but they initially made a chocolate shake despite the receipt. Resolution on that one took a mere trip to the counter, the busy shake lady was quick to whip up a new one.
Overall our visit wasn't spectacular, had we spent less than $10 a head it would have been more worthwhile; I won't completely write this place off due to its simple proximity (there isn't much in that area of Mansfield yet), but I would definitely choose Five Guys or even Pappas Burger over Mooyah. The six-month-old location has definitely not worked out all the kinks in its operation yet, but the not-so-fledgling store (and chain) could use some tweaking. The two unforgivables were of course Natalie (the manager's) flippant and rude attitude, and the lack of changing tables in either restroom (there was plenty of room on the wall).
If you're stuck in the neighborhood and craving a burger, Mooyah might be your best bet, but only if you're unwilling to travel ten minutes down the road. We'll skip it for awhile, hopefully time can work out a few...
Read moreYou can’t go wrong with a MOOYAH burger, fries and shake order - just don’t get a fountain drink. My soft drink was flat. My wife said she would refill it and I said - “Don’t bother, Macdonald’s is the only restaurant that knows how to mix Coca-Cola in a fountain drink”. She came back with a second set of drinks and guess what, flat again. But that burger, man oh man that burger tasted like it was cooked up in heavens kitchen! Same with the shakes, it must have been engineered in a lab because when it hit my taste buds they sent a primal message to my brain - More, more, more! I told my wife to hop the counter and try to find the recipe but she demurred with restrained social grace. The setting itself at MOOYAH is easily familiar. A line that leads to the register with brightly lit pics of the menu up above head level. Order and pay. I view the payment system with an odd curiosity. It prompts for a tip even though there is not a wait staff. Without a wait staff the suggestion that you give the restaurant a tip plays out in my mind like this…”Your order costs $25.33. Would you like to pay $29.12 instead?”- That’s an unusual request for your customer. Disposable cups, napkins and cutlery that the customer throws away themselves as they leave but the house wants a tip. Seating is a little tight. Napkin dispensers on the table along with a Heinz ketchup bottle. You get your own drinks as I’ve already described. So the good rating that I’m leaving is almost entirely based on the food - the burgers reminded me of Red Robin a little bit. I told my wife, as we were leaving that it was one of the best burgers I ever...
Read moreWe couldn’t have been “MooRyah” pleasantly surprised with Exceptional customer service and yummy food at Mooyah’s in Mansfield! It started with a simple call giving a staff member a heads up that we would be bringing a birthday party of 15-20 around 3pm. No special reservation instructions, no name given, just a courtesy call. When our group arrived we were impressed to find they had prepared and placed tables together with place-marker “reserved for group of 15“ to accommodate our party which turned out to be about 20. So needless to say, they were ready for us! Each staff member was courteous from the moment we entered the restaurant from placing our orders, preparing our food to helping with placing shakes we ordered into mini cups for our guests (to go with dessert) to offering to help slice the large cookie cake we brought. Derek and staff were visibly positive and hard-working. Great teamwork! We appreciate y’all! Especially, with them having to wear their PPE while working around the kitchen heat from cooking. And there was a second large group that came in shortly after us. The birthday girl got a complementary cookie and shake. Derek also rewarded us for bringing in our large group (business) with complimentary hostess meal/discount. We are happy to support smaller businesses post-covid shutdowns/limited capacity. They seemed so appreciative in having our business. We were happy to be there and will certainly be back! We 100% felt like we were dining at an full service restaurant! Can we say, Burger, fries, shakes with an extra-helping of Exceptional and Friendly, Customer Service! Thank...
