My partner and I are native to Texas, and were craving chili rellenos while passing through Mansfield. After scanning the local restaurants and reading some other encouraging reviews for this place, we decided to try it out. Upon arriving at this joint, we noticed an abnormal majority of senior citizens, who we later discovered were most likely the only folks with the ability to palate this food. We both ordered the Special Combo, and promptly received two massive plates of unidentifiable food covered with what was no doubt marinara sauce. What we consumed at El Charrito was not Mexican food... no... it wasn't even Tex-Mex. I could only describe these steaming platters to be laden with an extra terrestrial's best guess of what Mexican food might taste like. Any flavor resembling spice was nonexistent, and everything tasted vaguely similar. If you have the palate of a constipated 80-year-old Ohio potato, then this is the place for you. The sheer velocity at which my bowels rejected this poor excuse for nourishment nullifies any consideration I may have had giving this place a two-star rating. A double dose of Pepto-Bismol was my only comfort, and as I type wretched black stools are ripping my bowels apart as a result. I was not satisfied, and all I wanted was a...
Read moreThis restaurant is right next to the Travelodge we were staying in for three nights (which I also gave a 5 star review). We saw this place was very busy the previous evenings, so we thought we would give it a try. The waitress was very friendly, and knowledgeably answered all my questions about the vegetarian options. (Most wait staff in restaurants are not able to answer without checking with the kitchen.) I had the vegetable fajita, which came with a sizzling pan of stir fry veggies. It turned out to be the best and most flavourful vegetable stir fry I have ever had. My wife had the chicken Chimichangas, which she loved. We would definitely come back here when we come back to this...
Read moreGrabbed lunch here one day and had a good experience. I ordered a burrito de la roqueta for take out.
The burrito was good. The chicken was tender and had a nice flavor. The onions in the burrito were delicious. The sauce on top really paired well with all the other flavors.
The rice and refried beans were good. Nothing exceptional, but nothing offensive. And the chips and salsa were standard fair for most Mexican restaurants.
This meal didn't stand out to me, but it was good. I think the real win is the value and proportion sizes. You get a lot of food for your money here. I definitely did not go hungry.
Will I be back? Maybe. They have...
