I never thought I would be able to say this, but there's officially a worse pizza restaurant than CiCi's. I've eaten at Mama's pizza maybe 15 times over the past 4-5 years, and the experience is identical every time. This indicates that it's not just a bad day or bad staffing on that day.
First, even if they just brought out a fresh pizza, straight from the oven to the buffet warmer, it's never hot. I've had my mouth burned (literally burned) 1000 times by pizza in my lifetime, but that will never be a worry here.
Second, the crust has the same consistency as the cinnamon rolls (more on that later). It doesn't taste like pizza crust should taste, it's more like a very, very tough, chewy pastry. It's the worst pizza crust I've ever tasted.
The toppings are average. No real complaints regarding the toppings except that the cheese seems to be different than cheese on other pizzas. I can't put my finger on it other than to say it tastes different than what I think it cheese on a pizza should taste like. I rate the cheese far below average.
The pizzas as a whole are very low quality. It's on par with cheap frozen pizza. The dessert, to which I've never seen anything but cinnamon rolls, are extremely low quality, too. They're not even as good as cinnamon rolls from a can at the grocery store. They're tough, chewy, fall apart easily, and have cheap cinnamon topping. Think of Cinnabon, then imagine the exact opposite of that, and you'll have a good idea what these cinnamon rolls are like.
The salad I cannot speak to because I've never had it. It appears to be a salad bar in the most basic sense (it is quite literally the smallest--in terms of physical space taken up--salad bar I've ever seen. It's smaller than my desk at work). I can't imagine that they screwed that up, but it looks like they put minimal effort into it.
The cause of all of this would indicate (1) ingredients, (2) procedure, or (3) execution. Since my experience is virtually identical every time, I'm going to rule out execution and say that it's not the staff that is responsible. I've never been to any other Mama's pizza before so I have nothing to compare it to, but I'm going to suggest that it's a combination of inferior ingredients (I can tell good cheese from bad cheese) and inferior recipes and procedure.
This is in my top 5 worst restaurants I've ever eaten at. So why have I eaten there 15 times in the last 5 years? Because it's close to my work, it's the cheapest buffet in town ($8.00 including tax, you literally can't beat that), my pallet isn't so sensitive that I can't stomach it, and the hope that each time I go, something has happened to correct the things that were wrong the last time I was there. And I probably will eat there again in...
Read moreDefinitely was not impressed. AT ALL. We ordered at 06:20 last night, 09.04.2020, and only seen about six others order before ours. We did not get our pizzas until 07:55pm. It took an hour and a half for medium cheese pizza and medium cheese with spinach. Two simple pizzas took an hour and a half. I feel that is beyond ridiculous, especially when trying to feed a three year old. Never was it mentioned while ordering that it would be an hour and a half wait. We would not have chose to stay and try Mama's Pizza had we of known as we were feeding a toddler. If you are willing to wait, do know that the pizza will not be hot, out of the oven, but rather just warm. As well, the pizza is layered with grease like it came out of a fryer. And what you see pictured is not the spinach I had ordered, but rather a pizza with basil. Yes, after all of this- it was made wrong. Phone orders were prioritized so that is the route I'd take if you are willing to risk the experience. As far as sanitation is concerned, they are very dirty. Even in the pandemic, the establishment was over filled, there was no toilet paper or napkins in the restroom, and the tables were not sanitized or wiped between parties. Only trash was removed. Definitely no hurry or effort to provide customer satisfaction. And if you see this review and it persuades you to not go, which I hope it does, the owner would appreciate it. He made that clear when we asked for a discount after our experience and the best he could offer was a coupon card for our next visit. We let him know there would not be a next time from us and the response was "okay good". This interaction was between an employee and owner as the employee was used as the middle man. Never did we cause a scene, but did let the staff know we were very displeased with...
Read moreI have to take time out and rave about how much I love Mama’s in Mansfield. This is not my first time here, but today they knocked it out of the park for me. For those of you who are familiar with Mama’s I’m sure you’ve all signed up to be a Mama’s Insider. As you know Tuesdays is when they send out their deal for a 2 topping large pizza for $14. That being said; today was also the day our little book club decided to meet and take advantage of the deal. Along with another big family of about 15, people picking up pizza nonstop while we were there, and other patrons enjoying dinner with loved ones. My group included 7 adults and 4 children. The other big family group had children ranging in ages from toddler to preteen. For any smaller restaurant, that might be a lot, when you include smaller families walking in taking tables, but not for Mama’s Mansfield! Not once did I see any Mama’s Employee act annoyed or overwhelmed. In fact, every single Mama’s Employee had a smile on their face, remained polite, asked us if we needed anything, did not seem to mind that both families had moved tables around and took up the majority of the main dining area, and did not even bat an eye when children (mine included) cried. It’s places like these that will keep me coming back, because you truly feel welcomed. I was super impressed by everyone working there today. I hope you visit this location soon, and enjoy the same service I did. Oh, and their pizza is one of my favorite pizzas around!...
