Miso Soup The meal began with a standout, miso soup that was not just a warm-up but a dish worthy of ordering on its own. The broth was rich and deeply savory, balanced perfectly without being too salty. It carried a satisfying umami depth that made it feel comforting yet refined. Easily one of the best miso soups I’ve had, and something I’d happily return for.
Hot and Sour Soup Following that, the hot and sour soup delivered equally well. The flavors were layered, spicy, tangy, and earthy, with just the right balance of vinegar and heat. It had a clean finish that left me wanting another spoonful. It’s the kind of dish that could easily become a go-to recommendation.
Salad I don’t usually go for salads, but this one surprised me. Bright, tangy, and refreshing, it stood out enough that I genuinely enjoyed it. The dressing lifted the greens, cutting through with just the right amount of acidity. For someone who doesn’t typically enjoy salads, this one changed my perspective.
Calamari Appetizer The fried calamari was nothing short of excellent, probably the best I’ve had. The breading was light and fluffy, crisp without being greasy, and it complemented the tender calamari perfectly. The texture was spot on, delicate crunch outside, soft inside. The dipping sauce leaned slightly sweet with a tangy note, pairing beautifully with the fry. This dish was a clear chef’s kiss moment.
Queen Spider Roll Among the rolls, the Queen Spider roll was impressive. The portion size was generous, with a good crunch in each bite. The meat was lightly torched, left mostly rare, which gave it a fresher and more delicate texture. It stood out for its balance and execution.
Lion King Roll The Lion King roll, while creative, didn’t quite measure up to the others. It had a smoky quality and soft texture, but it felt like it was missing something to round it out, perhaps a stronger sauce or added crunch. The salmon itself was also seared lightly with a torch, leaving it rare. It wasn’t bad by any means, just the least memorable dish of the evening.
California Roll Classic and simple, the California roll was cold, clean, and refreshing. It wasn’t trying to outshine anything else, but it held its place as a reliable,...
Read moreBest Asian food in the area hands down!!!! If you haven't tried them yet. You really should! Flavorful, fresh, and fast.... Bonus amazingly great service as well. Sorry ; but I have to add to this, we've been waiting for them to open, finally realized they were. We went last night on a whim, we had only just sat down and our server immediately apologized for us having to wait so long. Absolutely amazing staff.... We had the garlic edamame starter yum, the wanton soup bowl was enough to feed all 3 of us, bento box was one of the best I've ever sampled! There were so many roll choices it was hard to choose but after having the most succulent delicious Alaskan Crab roll there's no doubt in my mind that I'll be returning as many times as I possibility can. Thank you Jackie for being our server. I hope we see you again very soon.... Also those candies I wish I would have grabbed a...
Read moreWas super excited to try this place during the soft opening. Avid sushi lover and have been for years, always going into Pearland for something decent or Houston for the good stuff. The sushi here was good - nigiri seemed fresh and flavorful, rice was well-seasoned. The food from the kitchen was a big miss, though. Tempura had a bitter aftertaste typical of old oil and same on the lo mein. Miso soup lacked the rich miso flavor, or really any flavor at all. Ginger salad dressing was also unusually bitter and missing the tangy vegetable flavor typically characteristic of the starter. No ambiance to the place - it has so much potential and is well decorated but way too bright, felt like a doctor’s office. Gave 3 stars because the sushi is worth going back for but unimpressed by the rest. Hopeful it will improve as I know other Aki locations get decent reviews. Glad Manvel is getting...
