This place is a great find. It's in a random neighborhood and is more of a pasta counter as you order at the register and they bring out your food when it's ready. You get your own utensils and pray that there's a seat available if you'd like to eat in. The seating area is very limited and not ideal for staying long. What makes this place great is their focus on the food. Each item is fresh and is made from scratch. The menu is very small but everything is done very well. ~90% of the restaurant is the open kitchen and you can see the chefs making the pasta and other menu items. It's a unique find and fun to try. Portions are small so I suggest an appetizer or salad with your pasta if you're hungry. Most people were getting take out. Mostly pasta sold...

We hosted a private dinner at Porta Rossa to celebrate a birthday and we had such a fun, special and memorable evening. The booking process was smooth and easy and Matt was always willing to answer all of my questions leading up to the event. The 5 course menu was thoughtfully planned and prepared and the food itself was beyond delicious. The space was cosy and intimate for out party of 11 and we loved being able to linger over our food, hang out and play games for hours longer than we would have been able to do at a regular restaurant. Matt and his team were attentive and discreet and we felt so well cared for throughout the evening. Highly recommend, can't wait...

So glad we live in the neighborhood and can frequent this gem of a place. Outstanding fresh pastas, sauces and a great selection of gourmet olive oils and condiments. And even if you don't live nearby, patronizing this business is well worth the trip. Hope Porta Rossa has many years of continuing success and is a staple of Maplewood for years to come! Bon Appétit!

(UPDATE 5.21.2025) We have since moved to Maine. When ever I am down in the Maplewood area, which is monthly, I always make it a point to get lunch here before I head back to Maine. There are always new things to try and old favorites to hit that yearning "spot!" And the outdoor area is lovely on a...

We discovered Porta Rossa recently and stopped in five minutes before they were about to close. Thankfully these guys are all about the food and service and they were happy to set me up with my order. Chicken scarpaiello and homemade pasta. Rosemary foccacia and Italian lemon soda. Got home and started with the foccacia while heating up the sauce and pasta. They included a QR sticker which gave clear instructions on how to prep the specific pasta I bought. Next level. But how was it? Let's put it this way. I've eaten in Italy many times. Porta Rossa is levels above many of those places, right here in Maplewood. If you haven't been to Porta Rossa yet, you haven't eaten.

This is a great place for a quick date or start up of your dinner night. Its small and cozy. I would recommend to go earlier as they dont take reservations. There you can find a variety of pasta options which change periodically. They also offer soup and sandwiches. You can also take some of their fresh salsas to go. The portion are small but worth every penny. My favorite was the truffle butter tagliatelle.
