Toasted Cafe has a lot of potential. Staff moved too slow. Too crowded. When I say staff moved too slow I am referring, for example, to when I raised my hand from my booth to ask for a glass of water and a food item to add to the rest of the order. The busboy saw me desperately trying to get somebody's attention but apparently did not know English well enough to talk to me himself when he was standing right next to me. I got tired of holding my arm up and hoped he would take over. Sure enough I saw him whisper to a female co-worker behind the bar who, in turn, whispered to Cristina who I believe to be a member of the owner family. Cristina looked over at me, then looked away. She wasn't going to come over so at that point I stood up and walked towards her in the crowded corridor by my booth where the busboy was passing through again with a full bus top. Slow moving, and, because Cristina wasn't going to come over I should add "non- responsive." She (Cristina) finally approached me and said I could sit down. Then she, obviously flustered, asked me whether I wanted water in my ice. I was trying to get a glass of water. I like the playing of Country Music in here but it is a couple of decibels TOO LOUD. How about this staff learning to stop the whispering and looking over from afar at guests and kick it into high gear with service? It would be better. Anyway, I DOUBT I will be back due to Cristina's disingenuity at the Cash Stand when I told her how much I disliked the Beef Liver breakfast. That's when she repeatedly asked me "why didn't you tell me?" Well I am telling you now so now is your chance to adjust my bill if it really matters ... not too late to do so at the cash stand. See what I mean about her being disingenuous? I cannot stand the fakeness (disingenuity) of her behavior with me. In sum, I liked some things about this Diner but overall I feel it...
Read moreWas not expecting to be treated the way we were when I went for a nice breakfast with a friend. I do feel we were treated this way because we are black and after reading other reviews, I am absolutely positive. When we came in, the waitress (1) immediately sat us in the back of the restaurant despite there being plenty of open seats by the windows and other booths. The waitress (2) who served us was pretty polite however I noticed that other customers walked in, were greeted and were able to just sit where they felt comfortable. When it came time to pay instead of us getting to go to the register like everyone else they brought an eft device to our table and sat it there until we were ready to pay. Then when we were leaving the waitress (1) loudly questioned the waitress (2) who served us if it was okay for us to leave. Saying 'Is it okay? Is it okay?' While walking behind us. There were also fruit flies flying around. The food wasn't all that either. What you would expect for the prices. the streak was not cooked how I requested. I wouldn't recommend and will...
Read moreOrdered here 3 times - once to dine in and twice to take out. For the dine in experience the staff were mostly neutral (not friendly, but not rude). They seemed professional with the their customer service skills. I ordered breakfast and the food tasted very bland, but it was edible.
When I’ve ordered take out, the look on the host’s face and other (not all) staff seemed like they were reluctant to have me enter the establishment. I didn’t look homeless, I didn’t smell, so not sure what it was. (Maybe they made initial pre-judgements like “Oh, this person is not gonna leave a tip!”) Well with the looks you give, it may be a self-fulfilling prophecy - confirming initial thoughts of minuscule tipping. People - be mindful of the facial expressions around the company of your customers. Sometimes you never know what connections each customer may have (regardless of their physical appearance).
Each time the take out breakfast orders were bland, but edible. Maybe I should’ve waited ‘till later in the day & ordered lunch, instead. I don’t plan on returning to...
