Say Sushi — Restaurant in Maricopa

This was once a favorite dining place but the service has steadily declined over the past 5 years. The staff is often rude and removes the pleasure from the dining experience, which is unfortunate because the food is pretty good.

My last experience here left my 20 yr old daughter highly embarrassed and in tears afterward. She thought she had ordered one dish and when she received something different than she intended, she thought she had misspoke andtried to order the correct item. She automatically assumed it was her own fault and fully expected to pay for both dishes but before getting the opportunity to do so, she was yelled at by the server as if she was trying to pull a fast one. Feeling there was a misunderstanding and that the server was attracting the attention of the entire restaurant, she tried to explain that she was willing to pay for both dishes, but the server just kept insisting that she had not made a mistake despite never being accused of making one. My daughter is very shy but also values high integrity & honesty, so being publicly accused of trying to scam a business was quite upsetting to her. She wanted to leave, so we tried to pay the bill before the rest of the food had even been delivered, and when they refused to give us the check prematurely, we left what we estimated to be double the total of our meal on the table only to have the server chase us out the door and throw the cash at us. I absolutely love Say Sushi and have been going here for years... HOWEVER... we went for the first time tonight post pandemic, and it was the worst service I have ever had at a restaurant. They were not completely packed and staff was standing around when they should have been working the room (very small room I might add) to make sure their customers are satisfied. Once we were sat at our table, we were ignored for about 10 minutes until we were given menus. I'd say almost another 10 minutes went by until our waitress came around to take our drink/ food order. Appetizer came out, we were not given plates, napkins, utensils. Sushi came out, finally given plates etc but asked for a different drink as my tea tasted like sugar water. Waitress NEVER came back to bring me a drink, my husband was never offered a refill, we were never checked on at all. I had to ask someone for our bill and of course the drink charge was on there. Made them take it off. This girl did not even deserve a tip. I read another review where staff shows favoritism towards their regular customers, and I 100% agree. A couple sat down next to us and were immediately greeted and orders were taken in less than 5 minutes. You could tell they were regulars by how they were greeted and was asked if they wanted their usual. The food is awesome, the service is horrible. I think I'd rather have mediocre sushi from somewhere else than have to endure another night like this. The owners really need to get their staff in check before their business...

Normally i would give this place a great rating, the food is good and usually the service is great BUT this time i was extremely disappointed and let down. For the most part I order the same thing every time i go, Teriyaki salmon with NO veggies and egg rolls. For some reason this time it was different. I arrived to pick up my order after calling it in & didn't check the box before leaving. i got back to work to eat and i had veggies an no egg rolls. i went back and was told i can not get egg rolls instead of veggies (although i have ordered this at least 9 times). she told me i cant sub egg rolls for veggies, i told her that is fine i don't mind paying for the egg rolls as a separate side item i just DON'T want the fried veggies and salad that come with the meal but i DO want egg rolls. She says ok we'll remake it. I needed to get back to work and my coworker had also placed an order. I asked would it be ok if she gave him my order with his food when it was ready so i could get back & she told me yes. Fast forward he gets back to work hands me my food and guess what to my surprise STILL NO EGG ROLLS. What does a person have to do go get a simple order of egg rolls gheez. I really had my mouth set on what i wanted and was so irritated that i didn't even want the food at all...
