El Borrego de Oro is a VERY welcome addition to the Marietta area. Unlike every other Mexican restaurants/taquerias (pretty much in all of Atlanta), El Borrego does legit barbacoa. Nothing steamed, straight up 9 hour cook in a brick oven.
They also server homemade tortillas and have, quite literally, the best salsa(s) I've ever had. Those are made in house too.
What's awesome about their menu is they have a set of daily specials, and the focus is on authentic flavors, everything is made from scratch, but they also serve tacos, quesadillas, menudo and other dishes as well.
El Borrego do Oro will quickly make a name for themselves as THE place to get barbacoa in Atlanta and the Marietta area.
The menu has breakfast options, several chicken dishes (mushroom sauce, mole) and chicharrones in verde sauce. I cannot wait to go back. The space is small and intimate. The staff is super friendly and for those of us gringos who do not speak Spanish, they're very keen to tell what each dish is and give solid descriptions.
100% awesome...check this place out...
Read moreSuch good and authentic Mexican food. The flavors explode in your mouth and are simply phenomenal. You can tell a lot about a place from the initial nacho chips and salsa dip. The chips came out hot and freshly fried. They brought an assortment of salsas as well as chopped cilantro, chopped onion, and limes. Right off the bat I knew this was going to be legit. I ordered one plate of enchiladas which was big enough to share for 2. The rice and beans are so good with authentic red Mexican rice. You know there’s a little abuelita doing all the cooking in the background. I also had ordered a side of Mexican coffee which was fragrant with cinnamon but I ended up sending it back because it was too bitter. Other than the coffee, everything else I had off the menu was really good. This is also a family-owned restaurant that I highly recommend...
Read moreFrom someone who used to live in San Diego, CA for many years, this is some of the best Mexican food I have ever had. If you want texmex, this is not the place. The food is authentic. I felt like I was walking into my best friend's house (from Mexico). The food tasted just like hers and her mom's. I've never experienced such authentic Mexican food at any restaurant (even from CA). It was sad to see that the place was empty, which the only thing my husband and I could understand is that most ppl from the area are not used to authentic Mexican food. They also had the cleanest public high chair I've ever used for my daughter....
