We went on several recommendations of local people. Atmosphere: pleasant. Very casual. Clean restrooms.
Menu selection: chicken, fish, steaks, burgers, salads. Good selection
Food quality and temperature: Fish and chips were good flavor BUT temperature was mildly warm
New York Strips were about an inch thick. They were ordered medium and medium well. Both were served very medium rare AND had a vein running through them.
Baked potatoes were also not hot
Our server experience was the biggest disappointment. We asked for bread with our salads and were told they had to toast it. Okay. Salads came and were consumed and no bread delivered. In between salad and meal, bread was delivered cold and crunchy.
Drinks were not refilled in a timely manner.
Meals came and were as mentioned above. We requested A-1 and wasabi for the steaks. Instead of getting it while the food was “hot” the server proceeded to take other orders, get their drinks and had to go from front of restaurant to the back to accomplish that. That arrived “hit and run “ style and The worst part is that, short of one fly by with a “does every thing taste okay”when we and we had just begun eating she didn’t come back. All the while we proceeded eating and trying to get the servers attention to get the steaks fixed. We finally stopped someone else who said they would take care of it. 5 minutes later someone else comes by and inquired. They( not server) took the steak back to cook. The rest of us were finished eating. We requested a manager who did come. We told him we wanted nothing for free, even though he offered us dessert. He apologized. We told him we thought the server had too many tables for their ability.
The server didn’t even know the steak issue when she dropped off the bills... before the steak had even been returned!
We understand under cooking of meat can happen. It’s how the server serves that makes the difference.
SUGGESTIONS : Servers, drinks come with refills and we appreciate them being refilled.
When steaks are served the condiments should be there immediately. As well as ketchup and mustard or whatever is needed while the food is Hot. Also , as to meat, request the patron cut into it to make sure it is done to their likeness at the moment it is served. We know that is not you who cooked it , but you are the one who is responsible.
Make eye contact with your patrons.
Remove empty dishes.
Management train your wait staff. Even if food is not quality the experience of the waiter can recover the opinion and make you want to try again.
Resolution: The steak dinner was removed from the bill. That was appreciated but not requested.
We all 4 left...
Read moreThe restaurant is located in an old hotel. The service was friendly and helpful. Visited in a Saturday dinner, so they were busy but still were sat right away.
I ordered a rum punch from their special menu. Skip it. I could not taste the rum, and it was served in a small glass filled with ice. It's not worth the price. We ordered a hamburger and fries, fish with potato chips, and another special their Sauerbraten. Hamburger was really good. Fish was good, and homemade chips were just okay. Sauerbraten was inedible. The meat was so tough, it could not be cut with a knife. The parts I did manage to cut off were so grisly I was unable to chew. The gravy for the sauerbraten was so sour. If you know this dish from any German restaurant, you know it's not supposed to be sour. The Sauer part only refers to the red wine vinegar the meat is supposed to marinate in for days. There also is a slight gingerbread taste due to the lebucken (gingerbread cookie) used in the gravy. The gravy on this dish was yellow brown, so I don't believe they used any gingerbread. I ended up eating only 2 bites of the Sauerbraten and half the instant mashed potatoes. Tasted the red cabbage, and it was as sour as the meat, not sweet, as is customary. Price tag = $28.00!
Pumpkin creme brulee was good, and the apple strudel was wonderful. Carrot cake was good.
I am still giving them 4 stars as the server did offer to have my dinner remade, which I declined. When I saw the $28.00 price tag on the bill for the Sauerbraten, I did ask if they could half the price, and the bill came back with the entire Sauerbraten taken off. Sending food back or telling any restaurant that their food is inedible is not something I often do.
Overall, u think I would try this restaurant again, but I would probably order a burger as they seem very popular, and you can even order them to take...
Read moreMy wife and I invited two friends for an evening meal at the Galley last night. We were seated promptly and were greeted by an upbeat server. So far so good.
We ordered two appetizers (the cheese board and the hummus tray). These arrived but it took about five minutes before we received plates to go with them. Still, not too bad.
Three of us ordered different types of steaks, each mid rare. When these arrived, one was borderline mid rare / medium, and the other two were solidly overcooked. It took some time for our server to return, and with as busy as it was, we did not want to wait for a re-fire to the proper temps on three steaks. So, we ate them as they were. However, we showed the server and told her twice about the problem, encouraging her to inform the kitchen to watch their temps. When you pay $34 for a steak, you want it to be right. She apologized and stated that she would tell them.
When the bill came, there was no offer to adjust the bill even slightly... no comping an app or drink, nothing to show that as a business they recognized that the back of the house mistake had any impact on our experience. Basically we were expected to suck it up, pay the $180 bucks (yes, that was our tab before tip), and move on.
I lay this poor example of customer service squarely at the feet of management in this case. They should have either trained their front of the house staff to report these types of issues, or if she did, they should have made even the smallest gesture to show their concern. They did not, and it will be some time before I and my wife (a chef) will visit or recommend the...
