We spotted this Museum on Google Maps a while back and I added it to my one to visit list.
Since we were in the area and only about 40 minutes away after hitting the Mothman Museum we decided to swing up and join the tour group.
Mr people's is a very nice person and a fountain of knowledge about the morticians industry and history.
You will need to call ahead and schedule a tour and he will give you a walking guided tour.
Side note you need to be on your best behavior because Barney Fife is guarding this place Mr peoples is cousins with Don Knotts.
The displays, artifacts, and restored hearses are all amazing.
If you are into the Macabre check out the human hair jewelry made by widows and families of deceased individuals.
He was also very informative and willing to answer questions for my daughter because she's looking into becoming a mortician.
The museum and tour is also free there's a donation box for anything you feel you should toss into it.
So worth the time for the visit and the information gathered. This is one of those places that you just have to see for yourself because pictures just don't do it...
Read moreMost likely the finest collection of vintage funeral transportation in the country. That being said this tour goes well beyond just the bling. Owner and tour guide Bill Peoples presents a very laid back, comfortable, informative and thought provoking journey through the history of what is for many of us is the uncomfortable subject matter of death. Focus is given on the ceremony of remembrance throughout the years and how that’s changed over time. Not a highly advertised activity but one you should seek out if your anywhere near the Marietta Ohio vicinity. A unique experience you will definitely remember. Don’t be swayed by no set tour times. Just send an email inquiry of when you would like to tour and Bill will get back in touch with you as he did with me. No charge to tour however donations are accepted.
A very interesting side note is that Bill Peoples shared with our group that he is 2nd cousins with nearby Morgantown WV native Don Knotts. That was definitely icing on the...
Read moreVery interesting museum of things related to the history of funerals. It is the private collection of Bill Peoples. You have to call to arrange a tour and there is no charge but they ask for a donation at the end.
There are hearses ranging from horse drawn to motor coaches, all in excellent condition. There are also a number of items related to funerals such as baskets used to transport the remains temporarily.
Our guide, Bob, was very knowledgeable and had lots of stories to tell including about how the 1927 Henney was used in the filming of “Get Low”.
The tour lasted almost an hour and a half but we were captivated the entire time. Bob was willing to answer all...
