Gave an in between rating bc i do love this place and great hot and sour soup/foods, but im alittle upset you cant go in and get just one side of something. You have to either get a $11 fill til full box and actually fill it up to get your moneys worth or you cant get it. Example..My grandfather doesnt eat alot nor have a big appetite but when he does want to eat we go and get it for him. This particular day he knew i was going there for my soup and only wanted the scalloped potatoes and very little of them. I asked the lady how much for just a small side of them and the soup together. She went to the back and asked the head lady and came back out and told me the total would be $11.79. I repeated to her what i wanted to make sure she understood all i wanted was my $3 soup i always get and a little side of potatoes and she said yes $11.79. I said oh no..i dont want them just the soup then. I asked why so much and she said i would be given a box and its that much. I explained to her that i didnt want to fill it..i just wanted like a palm sized portion. She repeated the price again and i said no and that i dont understand why it has to be in that box..why not get it in the plastic to go bowls for soup since it wasnt alot and she didnt say anything other than sorry. I know it wasnt her fault per-se and she may not have understood very much of what i was saying but the lady in the back wasnt relenting even after she went to get my soup and told her i didnt want the potatoes now when she asked why. I just wish you could go and get this or that or maybe even like 2 or 3 sides and not have to fill it up so much bc i cant eat all that and i know itll just sit in the fridge if i did take it all. Maybe offer smaller options on boxes etc so we dont have to pay $11 for a little helping of potatoes only please? Also getting my hot and sour soup after I use tonget it myself bc I don't want certain things in it. I usually more tofu mushrooms and etc and they have been getting it for me after I said I wanted to get it myself. It's jot like I take alot either so I'm not sure why this started but...
Read moreI’ve been going to Hong Kong Buffet regularly since the original location on Delaware Avenue first opened years ago. I noticed looking through the reviews that most were four and five stars, but then you will see a one star, and I noticed a couple things that made me lol. People complaining about items they don’t even serve, leaving one star reviews because they (along with most places with similar prices/buffets) didn’t de-vein the shrimp, which really has no effect on the taste and is the norm in Eastern culture, people complaining about not getting refills fast enough (makes me wonder if they are thinking of some other restaurant, because they are known for refilling your drink anytime there’s half or less remaining), and a lot of people that feel “rushed”, which again is a cultural difference when it comes to dining out. They try to bring your bill before you have to ask for it, which is standard in the East. I get that reviews are totally subjective, but I don’t like seeing people trash this place and make unfair comments solely due to a lack of knowledge about how different parts of the world have different beliefs and practices. Some comments are also downright racist, offensive, and ignorant. If you don’t like the place because of misconceptions concerning culture, that great and understandable. It’s just not fair to them to write ridiculous reviews when they are doing what they were taught as kids to be polite and normal. I’m actually inclined to think that some of the hateful comments were made by people with ties to competing restaurants...
Read moreThis Chinese buffet is one of the better Chinese buffets in north central Ohio.
It offers the standard Chinese buffet fare: broccoli chicken, vegetable fried rice, egg rolls, egg drop soup, etc., but their food actually has flavor. It is hot, and almost always fresh. The serving trays are kept full.
Service is attentive and friendly, with free beverage refills. Pricing is on par with other Chinese buffets.
My favorite dishes include their hot and sour soup, egg rolls, and teriyaki chicken. Their pepper steak isn't hateful. Their sauteed green beans have a nice crunch, their sauteed mushrooms are richly flavored, and their broccoli chicken actually has identifiable meat that tastes like chicken.
Missing from their menu is coconut chicken, which I love, but overall this is a clean, well-run buffet with a nice selection of hot, fresh, flavorful food and pleasant waitresses and staff.
EDIT: Kimchi and five flavor shrimp are gone. The teriyaki chicken is BETTER. The vegetable shrimp is not so good -- the shrimp in this dish are oddly starchy. They have an off-putting texture. The lychees are also gone, but a new baked cheesecake is on the dessert bar. Our waitress this last time was AMAZING. The prices have increased $2 per person due to inflation, but this is still an OK deal if...
