Do NOT come here unless you are a fan of unsolicited and unannounced room checks! I booked through Booking.com, and paid ahead, but they also took my card info at check-in. Because of this, I thought it would be easy to charge my card and extend my stay one day. Needless to say I was extremely incorrect. I had to call numbers provided 4 separate times in order to get my room extended by a day. For some reason the assistant manager’s personal cell was on the Booking.com site, so I apologize for calling this number after hours. After he gave me the number of the front desk, they told me they would call me back in 20-30 minutes when their manager arrived. After maybe 45 minutes I called again to see if they could work it out. They basically hung up on me, telling me the manager still hadn’t gotten there and they never ended up calling back. I called one more time in the morning before check-out, because I knew I was unable to get back before check-out time. The person on the phone was helpful, and took my card information, even though again, I don’t understand how they didn’t already have it. I came back and signed the new receipt, and immediately my cards did not work in my room (he only asked if I wanted EXTRA cards, not for my previous ones), but they were able to fix this. Then, around 10pm after I got out of the shower, SOMEONE OPENED MY DOOR. Thank goodness I had the hotel lock on, and I was screaming at whoever opened the door. because I was traveling alone and gave NO ONE permission to enter my room, especially with no knock or notice whatsoever. I called the front desk, very frazzled, and told them what happened. The man on the phone told me it was HIM who opened the door, and he was “checking on the rooms” ..???? He did not even APOLOGIZE??? In what world is this acceptable?? I have absolutely no clue why he opened my door without notice AND without remorse. I am terrified thinking about what he would have done if the door was unlocked. In no context is this acceptable, and I can’t believe this happened. In the morning (after a very non-restful sleep) I got out of bed to get something, and my key stopped working AGAIN. At this point I am so exhausted and had to stop by the desk to get it fixed. At checkout they asked “Was everything good?” and when I said “NO, someone tried to enter my room” the guy told me again IT WAS HIM! No apology, he just said that some people never showed up for their reservation so he was checking out the rooms??? Again, this excuse is so weird!!! Call the phone, knock, do SOMETHING besides open the door while I am inside. To say I am uncomfortable is an understatement. I cannot believe the treatment I received. I will never be back and will tell everyone I know to STAY...
Read moreThere was only a single 5-star review with no feedback when I booked this hotel which I don't think it deserves. Paid approximately $100 USD on a booking site the day before staying here.
As you drive up, there is a large Quality Inn sign on the top and vinyl signs for Wingate by Marion. I likely wouldn't have booked here if I knew it was an old Quality Inn with a few renovations. The photo on google seems to have the sign edited out or was taken before the sign was installed years ago - it seems like the main photo on google is old since the entrance area looks much more worn now.
The staff was friendly on check-in. Basic breakfast was included with sausage, eggs, and everything else you would expect at a continental breakfast. Furniture and carpets in the room seemed new and was clean. Mattress was comfortable. Wifi provided. The parking lot seemed safe enough.
The front "security" door which you are meant to tap your room card on after hours was broken and propped open with a battery. The elevator is old, drops a little when you walk in, and closed on my luggage as I entered. TV is an old LCD model, not great but fine for a single night. Bathroom was not renovated and not well cleaned. The mini fridge did not get very cold and was sticky/dirty on the inside. The curtains are old and had holes in the lining that let some light shine through. The air conditioning would turn off while the room was still warm even though I had it set to 60 - had to change it twice in the night as it started working, set to 70 and then it got very hot again. Footsteps from the halls can be heard easily and the walls are thin. I could hear people talking in other rooms throughout the night.
Overall, I would not stay at Wingate again if I was passing through Marion. There are other options for the same price or significantly nicer places to stay for $15-25 more. I did consider booking another hotel after checking in, but decided to tough it out as it was already late. That being said, if you are in a pinch and have no other options, it could be fine...
Read moreI booked a three night stay in early April. I received an email from the hotel one day before my check in telling me to do a pre-check in online, which I did. My travel plans changed when some severe weather (tornadoes) went through the region at the same time I was on my way to the hotel. I called them to say I'd be checking in a little late. A few hours later, I needed to cancel the booking. I cancelled by calling the number in the email I received from the hotel. The number was listed as the one you call when you need to cancel or alter a reservation. I called and went through a phone system to cancel the reservation. My cancelation was confirmed and I was informed I would still have to pay for one night (which is normal). The next week, I was charged for the entire three nights. I called the hotel to get this fixed and they told me they would not issue a refund for the two nights I was improperly charged for. They claimed that they had no record of my cancelation (even though they had record of my call saying I'd be late). They then said that they wouldn't refund me even with a cancelation record because they don't issue refunds to people who do the pre-check in online. Nowhere in the email telling me to pre-check in did it say that doing so would exempt me from being able to cancel. Nor did I receive that response when I did the cancelation the exact way their email instructed. I then called the corporate number to report this. At first the caller refused to create a ticket in the system for the issue. Then when I explained that the hotel was not following it's own or Wyndham's policies, they did create a ticket. I was told I would receive a call back within a week. Unsurprisingly, I never received a call back. Just a warning to anyone booking a stay here. They will take your money no matter what happens. You can follow their policies perfectly,...
