Family drove over an hour to try this place out based on a recommendation from a friend. Needless to say, we regret that decision. We came in for a late lunch (2pm on a Saturday), they might have had 4 tables going. We figured, hey cool we came at the right time to try out some good BBQ. Took a little bit for the waitress (later found out she was the manager on duty) to acknowledge us and get our food and drink order. Seemed like she was not having a great day. Figured cool, no big deal. We waited 40 minutes to receive drinks and only did so after my mother went and asked if we could please get our drinks. She passed our table a number of times serving others who had come in after us their drinks. The waitress came back with attitude, sat our drinks on the table, and threw the straws down. She made the comment with attitude, “If you haven’t noticed, I’m the only one working.”

She came back with our appetizers a few minutes later and said, “Sorry for being a b* ,would you like a box for your food?” Insinuating it was time for us to leave. My mother asked if she could see the manager. She stated, “I am the manager.” Feeling no longer welcome in the establishment, (never felt welcome to begin with) we left not touching any of the food or drinks that were brought out.

I have not seen a level of unprofessionalism like that in some time and from a “manager” no less. From the moment we came in, she was nothing but rude and disrespectful. If you are traveling and visiting Marion, consider other options. Anything would have been better than this. Stay as far away...

The food was good, but the overall service was very frustrating. My friends and I decided to order take out because we’ve been trying to eat there for weeks and it’s always been so busy. We called earlier in the day to see if there was a way to place our order early- they said no just call 30 minutes before you want your food and it should be ready. We waited until 30 minutes before we wanted our food and tried calling- the line was busy for 20 minutes straight. At this point I go over to the restaurant to order, and now it will be an additional 30 minutes because I couldn’t get ahold of anyone on the phone. (I also told them I tried calling for 20 minutes and no one seemed to care). We get our order and take it to Shovel City, only to realize once we sit down that they didn’t give us any utensils or sauce. We try calling again and the line is still busy. We had to walk back to the restaurant to get the things they forgot, and again no one seemed to care about the experience we had. Food was cold when we got it, and was even colder by the time we had everything. Pork and brisket were good, but service was terrible. Not sure if it was worth the...

This is the second time we’ve gone and had a terrible experience. The first time we ordered to go and I had to return because they forgot our sides. This time we dined in. We sat and our waitress gave menus and tended to people who arrived after us. Took our drink order and received them quickly however the water tasted disgusting and was brownish in color. Then I saw her take the orders of the people that came in after us. After we finally ordered, our appetizer arrived fairly quickly. After that we stopped receiving service. We sat for 20 minutes without a refill as she continued to check in on the table next to us without even sparing us a glance. The only reason we finally got a refill was because I had to flag her down and ask. Then when it came time to pay, she came by to grab the check off the table next to us and I once again had to flag her down because she wouldn’t even look at our table. I understand during these times many places are short staffed however I don’t believe that is the reason we received terrible service while everyone around us was tended too. I am very disappointed with the service and will not return and...

I’ve gotten down on plenty of pulled pork BBQ & brisket in my time, and this place does a few things very well. This includes their moist and tender brisket. The cut could be a bit thicker, but it was still very enjoyable. Their garlic sauce was a very good pairing with their brisket. Their hot sauce was, well, lacking heat, but was still good with their well-minced pulled pork. Nothing worse than a lazy place that merely chops up their pork shoulder with a mezzaluna knife in the back room. I really dig well-pulled pork, and am willing to pay extra for it. The potato salad was nothing spectacular, a typical midwestern picnic style potato salad, nothing too exotic, but it hit the spot. I would definitely stop back through here if I’m ever coming through these parts on a road trip. This time, it was for a visit to Warren G. I might even give this BBQ outfit a good look if I saw their smoker being trailered into a competition.

Ride to this Marion location with a group from our local motorcycle shop and it was the first time for several of us. Food and atmosphere were great with the brisket sandwich and sweet potato fries very tasty. Unfortunately, while not terrible, the waitress was just ok—mediocre at best. While friendly, she did not visit after the initial order taking except to deliver food…and, that, after not getting all orders correct. No drink refills, no checking how the food was, just ok. While employees are still at a shortage level for many businesses, we’ll give her the benefit of the doubt & guess that she was not physically feeling well (mask wearing, coughing in the back of restaurant, etc). Perhaps not an option to just stay home(?). Otherwise, a good trip and nice evening ride.

No one would expect to travel instantly to Memphis in a Midwestern town. No one would expect to find such excellent BBQ in an area where few local restaurants have managed to survive. I happily met one of the owners (Robert) who daringly opened this place in the middle of the 2020 pandemic. A risky move, but with wonderful results. The interior does have a Beale Street feel. My appetizers alone were plentiful. They will FEED you well in here. My food and my friend’s food were fabulous. We ate like royalty. You wanna “Memphis in Marion” experience? Right here! I hope this restaurant succeeds well and starts a local food scene trend that Marion could well benefit from. Hats off to the owners and staff. Awesomeness of an establishment!
