I don't eat at this Country Kitchen very often. I like the food just fine, but the service is usually sub-par. Today was terrible.
I ordered an Aztec Quesadilla burger, which was fine. But, according to the menu it should have come with Cole slaw and a choice of sides. I didn't get any Cole slaw and only got a small portion of French fries. The server was far too interested in gossiping with the lady at the next booth to be bothered to come back and see how we were doing. We ended up asking the manager for a menu so we could see what the burger was supposed to come with. It should have come with Cole slaw and the "choice" that the server had made for me was "unlimited" fries. I am not sure how a tiny portion of fries can be called "unlimited". The only time the server stopped by the table was to give us our ticket and by this time we were finished eating. I did try to explain to the manager that I wasn't happy with the service and he did offer two dollars off the meal - but he did so with no real sympathy. It felt like this is just routine. I doubt I'll be returning.
ADDING: Ever so often I'll revisit a restaurant where I had a disappointing visit to see if things have improved. I had originally given this place a three star review. I have to retract it and drop it to one star.
I ordered the cod basket.
The fish inside the coating was decent. The coating, however, was a thick mess that tasted of nothing but old grease. It's served with the blandest, least imaginative version of tartar sauce I've ever encountered - nothing but mayonnaise with a little bit of pickle relish tossed in. Fortunately, there was a bottle of hot sauce on the table. That gave the tartar sauce some life.
The fries were a clump that I had to pull apart. Clearly someone just tossed them in the fryer and left them there a while. They were overdone and greasy.
The bathroom had this odor in it that someone had recently tried to mask. The smell of whatever they used to try to hide the stench was so strong I could barely breathe.
Won't be back. Over ten dollars for greasy, overdone fish and fries is ridiculous. If the kitchen staff can't handle properly heating up frozen food, I don't want to try anything that takes more than one step to cook. It was clear they didn't...
Read moreI have been to many brunch spots, and this place by far has a great atmosphere and food. As soon as you walk in, you get the small-town country feel. (Everyone knows everyone type of feeling), laughter, and servers calling customers by their first names. GREAT! The servers accommodated my request for a window seat. The menu has many options. I asked the server for her recommendation, and she said to get the chorizo burrito with hash browns and avocado. It was good! A good mix of chorizo with quesadilla cheese and egg and not much onion. The hash browns had a twist, seasoned with a bit of butter (like a baked potato turned into shredded hash browns). The bathrooms were clean. The water pressure on the sink was not so great but still enough to wash your hands. They have booths that accommodate six adults. They also have a large parking lot for bobtail semis. If you're in the area on vacation, it's a good everyday...
Read moreI'm a diabetic on meds and unfortunately I have had a really hard time eating in the morning. I've always been that way, usually ate for the first time around 1-2pm, I don't know why, I just never ate breakfast. But being on meds means that if I don't eat, my blood sugar drops too low. So I've been trying to figure out what I can eat early so I don't have these problems. CK has made this so easy for me! I usually just order a side of toast, bacon and eggs, it fills me up and it stays low on my carb intake, AND IT'S DELICIOUS!! The eggs are always perfectly done, the bacon crispy, just perfect! The staff are always friendly and attentive and they go above and beyond. Wonderful breakfast and definitely a must try!!
I haven't tried the lunch or dinner so I can't review that, but the...
