Despite its amusing and enigmatic name that piques the curiosity of passersby, one would not anticipate a restaurant offering a limited menu consisting solely of Asian cuisine. However, your initial assumption is partially accurate, as this establishment also serves fusion pizzas and Indian cuisine. Where one of the most flavorful cuisines in the world meets the most iconic dish in the world finely prepared in an unassuming open kitchen, look no further than Marlboro, New Jersey’s own “Cumin’N Eat”!
I have always desired to introduce my friend, an Indian food enthusiast, to this place for two primary reasons. Firstly, there exists another restaurant with the same name in Secaucus, New Jersey, that offers a similar menu, with the exception of pizza. Secondly, this restaurant caters to fusion Indian cuisine and pizza, which aligns perfectly with my friend’s preferences, as they hail from Connecticut, renowned for its highly acclaimed New Haven Apizza. With that, my fiancée, my friend, our mutual friend and I embarked on a culinary adventure to this restaurant.
To begin our meal, we started off with the Mixed Vegetable Pakoda, a delectable appetizer consisting of deep-fried vegetable fritters. These fritters were neither excessively greasy nor overpoweringly seasoned, and they complemented the provided sauces to perfection. To complement our meal, we opted for the refreshing Badam Milk and the creamy Mango Lassi.
For the main course, we selected three medium-sized pizza featuring distinct fusion creations: a Chicken Tikka Masala (which my vegetarian friend was unable to partake in, but he graciously listened to our feedback on the food while we respected his dietary restrictions), a Szechuan-seasoned mixed vegetable pizza, and a Paneer Makhani pizza. Each of these three pizzas had its own unique characteristics and preferences, making them all distinct and enjoyable in some way.
In terms of overall flavor and spice profile, the Chicken Tikka Masala was the most restrained. The combination of chicken, the spices characteristic of tikka masala, and a few vegetables was quite mild to our taste preferences. It neither overpowered nor underwhelmed, effectively capturing the essence of the inspired dish.
The Szechuan spice mixed vegetable pizza ranked second among the three pizzas we ordered. The essence of the Indo-China fusion cuisine graces the crust of the pizza, accompanied by an ample spread of vegetables. While it does not possess an excessively spicy flavor, the carefully controlled spice blend incorporates a touch of sweetness.
Finally, we tried what quickly became our unanimous favorite: the Paneer Makhani. Although it was messy when fresh out of the oven, the pizza consisted of a light layer of a Makhani gravy topping the crust, with paneer triangles placed on top and baked along with the entire pizza. This dish was the most comforting and epitomized the harmony between pizza and Indian cuisine. It was a fusion of cheese pizza made with Indian spices and flavors, without any intense kick. The pizza was full of spices and flavor, and its texture was unique. Therefore, it was undoubtedly the best pizza in...
Read moreThere’s something to be said when you have a plain pizza and it still tastes the absolute best. Their plain pie from Slice Pizza has the ability to make you want to travel out through high gusts of wind and rain speaks volumes.
I’ve come here a couple of times now and round or square, thick or thin, every pizza is beautiful and as delicious as the first time I’ve had it. The crust is truly reminiscent of my beloved New York City Style Pizza where the pizza dough is slightly sweet with the caramelization on the underside. I have yet to have received a burnt pizza which has been hard to find around me. Yes, I’m throwing down my oven mitts to state there’s a very popular pizzeria in Old Bridge and their bottom had a burnt bottom and their cheese was horrible with a capital H. Slice’s style of pizza is New York style where you can achieve that classic pizza fold while holding toppings, nicely. I even love the edge of the crust where it has that nice crunch as you bite into it.
The sauce is not overly sweet which is perfect for me. The ratio between the sauce, cheese, and other ingredients is perfect. Speaking of cheese, the other place that I vaguely referred to in Old Bridge had their cheese with a waxy and pellet-like consistency as I was consuming it. Slice’s cheese melted beautifully and when I drove home with it, it was still melted and not at all waxy by the time we ate it at home. Smooth and luxurious. Slices’ toppings are also generous and this includes the herbs. A couple of times, I’ve ordered a pie and there’s literally one piece of basil in the middle of the entire pie.
The owner, Frankie, is absolutely so hospitable. He stated Slice has been open since November 2021. It is home to the famous 24 inch “Mega Slice.” His eatery serves more than just plain and gourmet pizzas. They also have filled calzones, Jamaican Beef patties, garlic knots, and other too many other things to mention. As I looked around, I noted their counters, dining tables, and kitchen were very clean. Something Owner Frankie is very proud of and I am deeply appreciative over.
Whenever I am in the area and want a great pie, Jamaican beef patty, or calzone, this will be the place I will be coming back to, within...
Read moreThis is an interesting and different restaurant. The location used to be the Slice Pizzeria and the new place has kept the pizza (which remains good!) and added an Indian menu as well! A bit jarring mixture at first but hey, why not?
I started off with a Sicilian slice and it was great, just like I’d expect at any other pizzeria and all the pizzeria options were still available and looked good.
On to the Indian food, the first visit, we tried the onion and spinach pakora along with the Gobi 65. In a follow up delivery order I tried the Bhel Puri and the Paneer Tikka Roll. The food was outstanding. I had asked for spicy and it had a good flavorful kick. The food was clearly freshly made and portions were really good for the price. They got the special requests correct and overall we really enjoyed the food.
The restaurant itself is still more of a slice shop vibe so ok for a casual meal or a quick bite but not quite fine dining style wise. The food is very good however so suspect I will be getting a reasonable amount of take out or delivery.
A welcome addition to the neighborhood and a great place to stop and eat after fighting the...
