Went for brunch with my family today. Half way through my meal, I crunched on eggshells. Spat them out, then noticed there were more eggshells on my food. Called our waitress over, told her there are eggshells in my food and I don't need the rest any more. Waitress just takes the plate, looks at the eggshells, goes back to kitchen, and came back out standing around. Not back to my table, not a word of apology or offer to make amends. Ok whatever, I lost my appetite from the mouthful of shells anyways. When the bill came, I see full charge on my meal not even a discount.
Called mgr over, told her about the eggshells and asked if there is not even going to be a discount? She then retorts with "did you eat the food?". Yes, I ate half until the eggshells. Again no apologies, her response is well you should have said something. I couldn't believe it. The thing is I did say something, I told your waitress that's why there was no plate in front of me.
I'm a pretty reasonable person and not entitled. Normally if something goes wrong and server apologizes and offer amends. I would have been ok whatever, they're busy things happen and would have paid the full amount. Even without offer to make new plate, I would have had no problem paying for half of my meal if server apologized but when no respect was given and you try to make it seem like I didn't try to do anything in giving you a chance to make it right like it was my fault that I had a ruined meal, that's where I draw the line.
Here are some pointers:
To the waitress who didn't greet or introduce yourself, not a single smile, never came to check on us, no apologies -- Please find another job because waitressing is not for you. To the one in charge -- please don't hire someone who doesn't want to work in your establishment. Try to find out what happened fully before trying to fault your customer and make them feel even worse when the situation is already a crappy one.
I know it was quite busy and things happen. I wasn't even asking for a free meal, I would have had no problem paying for half because that's what I ate even though the eggshells ruined my appetite but the non apologetic, you should have said something(even though I did) attitude really is not the way to go. I hope when things slows down at the end of the day, you can think back on the situation and learn from you and your waitress mistakes. Treat your...
Read moreWhen I first approached the Marlboro diner, I didn’t know what to expect. The diner is located at 143 US-9, so the diner was really easy to notice since it was right off the highway. On the outside, the parking lot was jam-packed, but I managed to find a spot in the back. I went on Monday, March 17th at around 6:00pm, during the dinner rush. I’d expected the place to be empty, since it was a Monday, but I was greeted with a very loud atmosphere. It was clear that the diner was always busy. Upon entering, I was seated immediately by the host which was very surprising, given the environment. A staff member at the front desk quickly found us a nice table by the windows. Inside the diner, there were a lot of vintage posters, and I felt a strange sense of nostalgia for a time where I wasn’t born yet. The diner didn’t lean too much into the vintage aesthetic, as the benches and tables were modern. The lightning was also gentle, so it felt pretty calming inside. That being said, the other patrons inside were very loud. The tables were very clean, and I could also see staff members working quickly to prepare the tables for the next customers. The waitress greeted us immediately, and asked us for our orders. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich combo, which included coleslaw, a pickle, and fries. The chicken sandwich was listed under their “specialty sandwiches”, so I was happy to try their best food. I also ordered sweetened iced tea and a bowl of chicken noodle soup.
The food came out in less than 10 minutes, so I wasn’t hungry for very long. I noticed that the fries were seasoned properly, and very crunchy. I appreciated the fact that the fries weren’t overly salted. The sweet tea was very refreshing, and I drank all of it quickly. The waitress noticed and quickly refilled my drinks for free. They also came back and checked to make sure the food was to our liking. The chicken sandwich was very easy to digest. The chicken soup was great, and I really appreciated the fact that they didn’t add too much salt. They can also cater to specific requests. For example, if you would like a gluten-free option, they offer gluten-free wraps. The total cost for the sandwich, tea, and soup was 22 dollars. If it weren’t for the limits of my stomach, I could probably eat here forever! Overall a pretty great experience, and would definitely recommend coming back...
Read moreI would just like to start by saying how wonderful the food and service is. Every time I have been here the food gets better and better and the servers are kind and caring. However, my experience tonight was very different. Tonight I experienced the male owner of the establishment belittle, yell, and embarrass this one particular server. The party I was with and I knew he was a new server since we come so often. He was left to serve 3 tables by himself while the rest of the staff seemingly hung out, made comments about our server, and watched at the hightops while our server delt with the tables alone. When he came over with our food he was shaking and he was bright red in embarrassment. While waiting for our dessert a waitress came over and questioned with an attitude if we were waiting for something? Knowing very well our server just told us we were waiting for our desert to be prepared. It seemed she was only asking to find fault in what our waiter was doing. Even though we were being taken care of. Very well I might add! Upon us leaving I handed the tip directly to our server thanking him for how well he did tonight as well as, telling the male owner how well his server did. How can you claim to be a fun, friendly, family oriented environment? I am very disappointed, uncomfortable, and disheartened in the bullying I had...
