I know I gave 5 stars across the board because we did love the food. We went there Saturday night after going to Grants Farms for the evening. We are not from here and were heading back to our daughter’s apartment in Clayton when we saw the diner and turned around to go eat there. Our waitress was awesome and the food was delicious. We liked it so much that we wanted to go back the following night since it was a little late and everything seems to close so early around here. It was 9:00 PM when I looked it up and it said they close at 10PM on the website so we went for it. We drove all the way over there and arrived at 9:33. As we pulled up the lady inside was signaling from inside that they were closed. Running her finger across her neck like that “it’s over” or “your dead” gesture. It really sucked because the site showed a 10PM closing time and we drove all the way over there with plenty of time only to be signaled from inside that they were closed. It was very disappointing. If you actually close earlier than 10 then change it on your site. I feel like maybe because there were no customers for a while that the people working took it upon themselves to go ahead and close down so they could hurry up and go home or maybe that’s just how you run your business. Either way, It was a really negative vibe especially after being there the night before and it being such a positive experience...
Read moreThe St. Louis Blues won the Stanley Cup and the parade honoring their victory was held on Saturday June 15th. I was at the parade and it was awesome!! That parade marked a first in Blues history and also marked a first for me as a patron of the Courtesy Diner. After a long day of celebrating it was time to grab some breakfast for dinner and I especially had a craving for pancakes.
**3) The only downside is that they do not accept plastic. This is strictly a cash only place. They do have an ATM so you can get cash. The fee was less than the usual fee so that at least helps offset the problem of having to get cash.
The order was ready pretty quickly and the same server then began offering condiments and made sure she double checked everything. There was no shortage of condiments in the bag which is unusual these days. It’s like restaurants don’t even want to part ways with a few extra napkins anymore.
Here is the best part of the whole experience. When I got home and opened the box with the pancakes I was completely surprised but in a good way. The dude making pancakes made on in the shape of the Blues logo. That was pretty awesome and really spot on!!
Nicely done Courtesy Diner!! A true celebration for our...
Read moreCute little diner (emphasis on little because good luck getting a table during breakfast hours and the parking lot is a huge PITA) that has a retro vibe. Servers are nice. Food is just.... disappointing. There is no flavor in anything and salt and pepper can only do so much. I truly cannot understand how people think this food is so good but there's a reason you won't see any POC there- absolutely no seasoning! The reason it comes out so quick is because they don't cook anything correctly or season anything. Like ANYTHING. I get why it's popular but my God would it kill them to add flavor? Everything is so oily/greasy but somehow still tastes like nothing. Biscuits are terrible like they are microwaved instead of baked and the gravy is clearly from powder mix. Coffee is not great and the steak for the steak and eggs could have been a slice of roast beef with how thin it was (except roast beef has flavor, this steak was simply covered in oil and tasted like sadness).
Like there is a reason why older people love this place and it's because the food is bland as hell. Definitely go here if you're on a medically restricted diet or something but not if you...
