I stayed one night and was happy to leave in the morning. On the plus side, the entire complex is adorable. Little brick cottages with carports, old style 66. Reasonable rates ($60), clean.||On the down side, not all rooms have fridge or microwave, and while mine had them, the fridge was only a little colder than the room. The freezer had standing water and wasn't even close to freezing. Luckily, it was 12 degrees out, so I left my ice outside to refreeze.||Speaking of 12 degrees out, the room would not warm up. I was working on the laptop for an hour or 2 and my fingers were frozen. I picked up the phone to ask the desk for a heater - no ring tone, so I walked over and requested heater & blankets (none on the bed, just a sheet and the bedspread).||After they brought them over and I aimed the heater at the bathroom (no heat in there), I realized that part of the reason it was so cold is that the AC unit was letting in a breeze that was barely less than. The heat coming out of the wall unit. I wrapped a blanket around it - much better.||There are only 2 outlet in the room, plus one dedicated to the AC or heater. One was filled up with the TV and cable box, the other with microwave & fridge. Luckily, since I'm moving, I have a power strip along with me and was able to use that to charge my laptop and phone.||The room contains one full or queen bed. There is no room for another, yet there are 3 chairs. I used one to jam under the AC blanket to keep it in place.||No usable outlets, and the only lights are the overhead on a switch and a lamp on the table, unplugged, and what, pray tell, would you unplug to use it? The cord wasn't long enough to reach the microwave/fridge one.||One bedside table on the side by the door, away from the bathroom. No lamps there; again, I am traveling with a solution, a headlamp, so I could read in bed without having to freeze myself back into wakefulness to shut off the light.||The final straw for me was that the mattress was so hard that it took 10 minutes under the hot water in the morning before I could move. At least there was lots of very hot water.||Oh, and the WiFi kept dropping out.||In warmer weather this wouldn't be so unpleasant. I suppose this is what travelers in the 40s were accustomed to, but it doesn't meet the needs of travelers today, who expect a working fridge, at least one extra outlet for electronic devices, an outlet in the bathroom for hair dryers or shavers, and comfortable beds with blankets.||It's bearable off you're set on using old Rte 66 places, but there are many that...
Read moreWayside Motel was apparently originally built in 1940 and, while it shows, it maintains a certain charm that you can't find at too many places. You won't get all the frills of a corporate chain here (no wi-fi, pool, or continental breakfast), but our room was clean and exceptionally quiet, our pillows mattress were new and comfortable, and the shower was roomy and had decent water pressure. You do need to take your own shampoo and hair dryer. (They do provide a small bar of soap, but we used our own there as well.) When we return, I will take my own towel too because they only provide small, scratchy hotel towels.||||I would recommend taking a power strip or extension cord because there is only one available outlet, and we needed more plug-ins than were available. If you need medical equipment while you sleep (CPAPs, etc), you will likely need a couple of extension cords. In our room, the only available plug in was on the opposite side of the room from the bed.||||The carports were a plus; They kept our car relatively cool despite the hot summer sun. It was nice to only be a few steps from the car when we were loading and unloading.||||The staff were very nice and pleasant. We had no problems calling in and making a reservation. In fact, one night, the no vacancy sign was up, so I would recommend making a reservation ahead of time. ||||Ultimately, we were very pleased with this hotel, especially for the price. We will...
Read moreI called earlier in the day to get rates was told $65 a night, I get there to check in and pay for the room and am told $95 it was late and had no other choice at this point. Let me start by saying not only do they wayyyyyy over charge but the room was dirty and smelled awful. Glad the person I got the room for hand their own blankets and things because the beds are not anything I wld sleep on they are not comfortable and they also stink. This lady was outside when I was unloading my car and she and I spoke for the same room I paid $95 for she was paying $75!! I got this room to help someone out with a place to stay for the weekend. I called this morning to speak to someone about the issue and they said different rates again. I wld never get a room here for myself or anyone again. They are run down, not clean, filthy and overpriced. It needs to be turned into a homeless shelter at this point. It was giving horror movie vibes with the looks of the room and the caution tape was an...
