Okay, first of all, a Marshall ICON. If you're coming from out of town, they are a MUST have for travelers. It's a sin if you don't try Louie's while you're in town. They're been around for so long for a reason. And they've always been family owned. They are best known for their nut rolls, but I'm not a huge fan of peanuts but I know tons of people that LOVE them. They have the BEST custard in all the land and I don't have to try every custard in the world to know that they are the absolute best. And anything with raspberry filling is INCREDIBLE. They had little parfaits with gold flakes on top for Valentine's day, and I was like daaang Louie, you fancy. They also let you send nut roles or cookies in the mail now in these cute little tins!

The best Bakery around, a gem in Marshall so be sure to stop by when you are in down. I love the eclairs and the chocolate drop cookies the most - but the seasonal treats are wonderful for the kiddos, like the cupcake bunnies for Easter or cookie hearts for Vday. I'm sad they traditionally take the month of my birthday off (july) because I'd love to get my birthday cake from them as well - I already get my kids cakes from them - I just call ahead and they can bake up whatever I need and personalized.

This bakery has been around since the 50's and its easy to understand why when you try their food. We got 4 donuts and 2 cookies at a great price. We try donuts from all over so when we say these were good we mean it. Look at those layers on the butterfly roll! We are from out of town but will try to be back for more donuts AND to try some of their bread!!

This place is the quintessential, authentic small-town American bakery. There are other bakeries within a forty minute drive, each with their own specialties Boonzaijer's Dutch bakery, the Irish owned Victorian Bakery, the beautiful urban cafe design Hungarian influenced Sarkozy Bakery, Mackenzie's community spirited Bakery, the Mexican La Azteca, the Continental Bakery, in Battle Creek, the hundred year old Polish Bakery in Jackson etc. But still Louie's is my favorite. Wonderful pies that can't find their equal in taste or price, those great flat caramelized pastry spirals whose name I can't remember, the iced fruit bars, the cream horns. The Bakery is small, standing room only, and always well staffed often with three or four people serving a quickly moving line. On Christmas Eve morning, in the few minutes I was there I saw six people come in to pick up their special orders if pies and goodies, in huge quantities. I was the only one, at $65, who left the store without a towering pile of white boxes, and less than $100 in baked goods. The Bakery has Starbucks coffee in push thermos dispensers available, and a bench to sit on in front of the store. Otherwise it's a grab...

Wooooo! What can you say? If you are around, pop in and and your family some of their historically famous AMAZINGNESS. The raspberry boats, chocolate cake donuts, nut donuts, cookies and incredible cinnamon frosted yummiest, are only small PART of this long-time favorite. Jelly, custard, powdered, plain or a combination will bring a huge smile to your gluttonous face! Oh, DEF try the lemon-filled donut...my goodness! Friendly staff, very clean, and constantly busy for a reason. Get there early or you may miss out. There will be cookies and bread left, it may not be THE version you went for, depending on the day. For the record, have cash if under $20 worth of heaven. There is a minimum that helps your convenience, and allows the business to recoup the use of fees. Believe me, filling a bag to get to the magic minimum, won't be hard if no COH! YOUR tastebuds, belly and behind will battle with what was the BEST part of your visit. I AM ALWAYS happy after a visit...even if FAT and happy, and suffering from an insulin crash! We love Louie's! May it carry on for...
