My wife Pam wanted to go to Hobby Lobby in Marshalltown yesterday and suggested we try the La Carreta Mexican Restaurant, we're very happy we did. Before retiring from Alliant Energy I have heard nothing but good things about this restaurant but not living in Marshalltown we just never got around to trying it, that's all changed now. From the moment we entered we were made to feel like family, the gal who served us was off the charts awesome, very helpful, cheerful and attentive and knowledgeable about their offerings, we couldn't ask for more. Our order came quickly and way exceeded our expectations in deliciousness and at a very reasonable price. This was an exceedingly good eating experience, from beginning to end. Can't wait to return for more, between the two of us a four thumbs up and my coveted cleaned plate award.

The inside was very beautiful and had a fun atmosphere. The food however was disappointing. The meal started with chips and salsa. The salsa was ok but the chips were stale! I ordered a burrito and I was expecting a traditional sauce but it was more like a thick gravy. Overall, there was no dish that stood out or had a great taste. Also, having a main staple like chips be stale says a lot. Its disappointing because the establishment looked nice and had a fun feel.

I found this review in my old phone when I upgraded..lol..I had tried them their opening day and predicted nothing but good things and success. I had a delicious Burrito for lunch today so nothing has changed..still excellent !! Original Post: My meal was excellent for an opening day experience. One of the best Coctel de Camarones I've gotten in years. The Texas Fajitas I had was spiced and cooked perfectly. Can't wait to get a chance to try them again

Such a great restaurant!! They have a huge menu with many vegetarian and vegan options as well. I’m used to only having 1-2 options at a restaurant, but I got overwhelmed with the number of vegetarian options on the menu! (It’s a good problem to have!) All of the staff was extremely friendly and attentive. The portion sizes are huge, so I had enough for two meals. I just wish the potatoes in my enchiladas had some spices, otherwise it was a great stop!
