I am not one to write reviews, but I feel that what happened at this hotel needs to be shared. I checked and everything was fine. The Front Desk Person Melanie N was great, very friendly and the room was decent. I was in one of the King Suites Room 329. After getting in my room after a 6-hour drive and getting something to eat I went to get some Ice. The ice machine broke on my floor, so I went up to the 4th floor no big deal. But this is when it went south. I couldn’t get back into my room. I went to the front desk to get a new key because we all know it happens cards get deactivated no big deal. Get the new key and head up to the room still won’t open. I did these 3 more times before Melanie walked up with me and mentioned that they had issues with this door before, but they were able to get it open after a few tries. Well, that didn’t work so she goes back down to bring up the electronic box that they can plug in and open it. Well, it’s the wrong cable. She is looking all over for this cable and can’t find it. She is calling the General Manager, Assistant manager, Maintenance Guy, and other employees to see if anyone knows where this cable is. No one can find it. She calls the GM and explains she can’t find it. They can’t get ahold of the maintenance person, and he is refusing to come in to take care of the issues. This is going on 2 hours of this. All my stuff is locked in the room. I didn’t even have a phone wallet or anything. The GMs suggestion is to put me in another room, and he would deal with it when he got in in the morning. This is when I have had enough. I politely ask Melanie N who has been so kind and apologetic through the whole thing to call the cops to see if they have a way to get into the room. In my opinion this is a huge safety issue if you can’t get into a room. Well, the cops are useless as well, they can’t do anything except kick the door down but because it is private property they can’t unless someone is in distress. I even explained to the GM and the cops at this point that I have medication that I have to take. It falls on deaf ears. After 3 hours of this, the Maintenance person shows up and he’s now looking for this magical cable and can’t find it. They end up calling the Holiday Inn next door and one of their employees comes over and has a tool that goes under the door to open from the inside. Well guess what theirs doesn’t work for that door. That’s when the maintenance worker goes “oh that’s what those are for we have two of them” he goes up and attempts to open the door for 45 minutes and still can’t get it. The guy in the room next to me had seen what was going on and assisted him and they finally were able to get it open 4 hours later at after 11:00 pm after a day of driving and a meeting with a customer at 7:00 in the morning. I told them to cancel the rest of my stay for the week, and I would be switching hotels in the morning. They would not refund my room. I didn’t get an apology from the useless management team who couldn’t even take the time to come in and address the situation. The only good thing I can say about this hotel is the very nice front desk working Melanie N who remained calm during the entire situation while continuing to apologize for it and for the horrible managers/ owners. I will be contacting Hilton as well as I am an avid Hilton member who travels a lot for business but that could be changing depending on how this...
Read moreAs a longtime Hilton Honors Diamond member, I’ve stayed at many Hampton Inns across the country, including this one in Marshalltown several times while visiting family. I left a critical review after a disappointing stay last year, and while management responded with promises to improve, I’m sorry to report that nothing has changed—and in fact, the conditions have gotten worse.||We had a group of six rooms again this year for a family reunion, and while the front desk staff were at least more polite this time (though not particularly warm), the overall experience fell well below expectations.||The hot tub is still empty—one full year later—with just a few chairs and some caution tape around it. No signage, no barrier, and no explanation. It remains a clear safety hazard, especially for children. The pool is even worse than last year—dirty, pitted, and rough on the feet. Not one person in our group used it after seeing the condition.||The parking lot is deteriorating badly, with pitting and cracking, and the front entrance and Diamond member parking area are surrounded by weeds, making the whole property look neglected.||My room smelled musty, and the toilet wouldn’t fully flush, making for an unpleasant bathroom experience. But the worst part was the door key system. The outdated card reader locks barely function. Across our six rooms, we made eleven trips to the front desk to reactivate keys that simply wouldn’t work. I've since read reviews from other guests reporting being locked out for hours. This is totally unacceptable.||I truly want to support this property for the sake of convenience when visiting family, but Hilton needs to seriously reevaluate its standards here. This is not what any guests should expect from a...
Read moreDid our research before going to Marshalltown for a wedding and found that this hotel had the better reviews. Very glad we made the right decision to stay. Upon arrival, we were greeted by an immensely friendly front desk attendant, named Allison. We felt we were in good hands and that everything would be taken care of.
Went to our room and immediately turned the air down because it was a hot weekend. The air worked great and didn’t freeze you out like some places. Then we scurried down to the pool. This is as the highlight of our stay. A clean, non-toxic experience to help relax. Hot tub and pool were wonderful. For a one nights stay, we visited the pool 3 times. Exquisite!
Within walking distance of Culver’s which is where we had a afternoon meal-ish. Culver’s had an ornery lady working there, but I digress.
Our room was a bit bare for furniture, but we really didn’t need much. Others may find that annoying. The walls had some stains on them, but other than that the room was immaculate. Bed was a bit firm for our liking, but everything can’t be perfect.
Breakfast was our only let down. It was adequate, but we’ve had better continental breakfasts. The food was very processed and the fruit was weird. Yogurt was good and waffles were good. There wasn’t any regular syrup and only sugar free that ruined the waffles for me. Everything was...
