A few suggestions: As a first time customer, I (and my family) found the set up of Mojo's to be confusing. Perhaps a table with menus sitting right by the door with a simple "How It Works" sign would be a helpful addition. "Grab a menu here. Order at the register. Grab a seat and wait for your name to be called!" It could be as simple as that! The person who took our orders didn't explain how things worked. We figured it out as we waited for a table to open up, but some clarification in the beginning would have been very helpful. I always find it to be a huge turn off when a restaurant only has bottled beverages. Even a self serve water station would be sufficient. The kitchen was hopping and my mom was a bit too shy to ask for a glass of water to help her down the spicy ridotta. We met one of the owners, Jen, by chance as she was cleaning off tables. After I engaged her with a simple, "Could you tell us more about this place?" she lit up and was easy to talk to. Having contact and engaging with your customers is important for the business owner. Though it was clear that her presence in the kitchen was important, her conversation at my table made my experience more enjoyable. My family and I sat in the "overflow" common space seating in the back of the house. From time to time, staff would walk through the door to the back area and I found it to be very awkward. There weren't any hellos or smiles from the staff. Overall, the food wasn't bad. I had the pesto. It was creamy, which I didn't expect. But it wasn't bad. My dad had a sandwich which he said was, "Nothing special". Photos attached. Rolls were very hard. All ingredients were clearly very fresh. I think that Marshfield will really embrace Mojo's. I do think it's more of a takeout place seeing as seating is very limited. Good addition...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had high expectations for this after reading the reviews. Menu was interesting with lots of choices. My boyfriend ordered a pulled pork po boy and I ordered a shrimp po boy. You order and pay in advance at the front before taking a seat.
Ambience was not good. I knew from photos sort of what to expect, but thereās a lot of open space, tall ceilings, which carried sound. It didnāt help that there was a 2 year old running laps in the back while their parents drank their beers, but I have kids so, whatevs. The table rocked; I put a wedge of folded up paper under to stop it. We couldnāt move as no empty tables. The table was still covered in crumbs so had to brush those off. Soooo not a great impression.
Once the food came, it was in take out boxes with plastic ware and butter packets. Not sure why butter packets? Our meals came with a decent sandwich but plain run of the mill chips. My sandwich had 6 or 7 shrimp on top of the slaw. A big piece of bacon which sort of overwhelmed the flavor of the shrimp. The shrimp were cooked well. The slaw was tasty. But it was a pretty nice sized sandwich with not enough shrimp. At $13.50, it has to have shrimp. Both ends of my sandwich had no shrimp (the last 1ā-2ā). It was good, but yeah, not for that price. My boyfriend said his was āok,ā but heās admittedly good at BBQ and likes it a certain way. He felt it was stringy and too moist, the sauce was overly sweet.
Iād say this is comparable to Panera or Noodles and Company. The ambience, self bussing, and style is similar, but itās priced higher than what...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe were a little skeptical about this place because of the unusual "Cajun and Italian" combo -- it didn't inspire confidence. But, the reviews were outstanding and we're tired of going to the same restaurant every time we're in town, so we decided to give it a try. I am so glad we did. This will be our new go-to spot when we're in Marshfield.
My husband had one of the specials, a Cajun deli-style sandwich. He said it was fantastic -- flavorful, great ingredients, and warm all the way through. (So often, sandwiches like that are cold in the middle.) I had the pasta carbonara and was THRILLED. Creamy noodle dishes are my favorite, and it's hard to find good pasta in central Wisconsin. The meal was SO GOOD. The sauce had a lot of flavor, and the texture was just right -- not too thick, not too thin. The ingredients in the dish were high-quality and well-balanced, and the pasta was cooked perfectly. (No crunchy or mushy noodles here!) On top of that, there was a ridiculous amount of food. It was so good that I took the leftovers home even though we live in Wisconsin Rapids and wouldn't be home for hours -- we had a cooler in the trunk and picked up some ice at the gas station down the street to keep the leftovers from spoiling. I ate the leftovers for dinner the next day and still didn't finish, so the portions were beyond generous. I couldn't believe I was served so much food with such high-quality ingredients for only $20.
We will definitely be back, and I'll make sure there's a cooler in the trunk next time we stop in. Yes,...
