Will not be returning after a bad experience on Oct. 2nd. Waitress brought us dirty silverware with food particles still on 2 of the 3 sets of forks and 3 tiny bite sized pieces of bread to start things off. My wife got a beer which was fine, but the sweet tea my son and I got tasted bitter with a strange aftertaste. Overheard one of the other waitress telling customers next to us not to order the sweet tea and other items on the menu as they didn't taste right to her and other customers. I immediately asked for a Coke and got rid of the tea. My wife got the Cream of Crab soup and I got the French Onion soup for appetizers. The crab soup had very little crabmeat and was very bland. Most of the crabmeat was just placed on top of the soup. The French Onion soup was inedible as the broth was extremely salty and had too much cheese added to it making it even more salty. For the entrees, my wife got the mussels, I got the French Dip and my son got the spaghetti and meatballs. The mussels were ok, lacked flavor and did not need onions piled on them. A simple butter and garlic sauce would have been better. Toast points were burnt and inedible. My sons entree was also served with no meatballs and burnt toast. Had to get a different waitress to get them as our original waitress apparently just left during service. His food was just ok as the sauce and meatballs were bland and was served warm, not hot. As for my French Dip, it was absolutely terrible. The bread was actually served burnt to a black crisp. The meat contained gristle and was overloaded with cheese causing the entire sandwich to be inedible due to the extremely salty taste. The "Au jus" that came with the sandwich was also very salty and tasted more like a bad packet of brown gravy mix instead of a properly made Au jus. The only item that was good were the fries. Overall, a very poor experience and complete waste of $60+. Will not reccomend this restaurant to anyone else after...
Read moreA spider tried to join us for our meal. Not a good starting sign.
The bread and cheese crisps were nothing special.
The mussels were just okay. The meatballs were good, albeit small.
My girlfriend ordered the filet. They did not ask her how she wanted it cooked and it came out well done. Even being well done, I tried a bite of it and did not believe it was a filet. It seemed to be sirloin. She said the broccoli and baked potato were okay.
I ordered the crab cakes. They did ask if I wanted them broiled or fried. I said broiled. When they came out they appeared to be fried. The server said people often confused their fried and broiled crab cakes. That seems odd. They did not taste good. I asked if they had any kind of sauce for them and he offered to bring tarter sauce. Unfortunately even the tartar sauce they use was not that good. The fries were good. I did not care for the mac and cheese. My gf tried some and thought it was okay.
What was really bad is, a fly that was buzzing around landed on my gf's steak. When she pointed this out to the waiter, he picked up the plate and asked if we wanted the check. He did not offer to get more steak, did not offer to take it off the bill, did not offer to notify the manager.
I barely ate half of one of my two crab cakes, did not eat more than a spoonful of the mac & cheese, my gf barely got to eat any of her overcooked supposed filet and our bill was around $90.
I guess live and learn when you are one of the first to try a place. I should have trusted the first review of this place. The second two reviews must have been from family or friends of the owner or staff.
Anyways, if they stay around hopefully they get better and others that do try them have a...
Read moreThis was the first time we were trying Abingdon Grill. My three kids were very excited to get the activity packs at the table-- I had never seen anything like it. They had a little pop-it keychain, squishy toy, small pack of crayons, and sticker activity set for each kid. It made them SO happy and the little sticker "thank you for supporting small business" was really nice.
Service was attentive, efficient, and our orders were correct.
My husband got the Italian wedding soup special and had no complaints.
I got the shrimp Po Boy; shrimp were big and perfectly fried, the Po sauce had good flavor and I think I'd ask for some extra next time.
Two kids got spaghetti and meatballs with their chosen side of fries; portions were perfect, the sauce was ok, the meatballs were delicious and clearly made in house.
My youngest got the Mac and cheese and chose fruit as his side. Despite the fact that it could have been easy for the restaurant to make Kraft for the kids, they don't. And the server informed me it wasn't Kraft just in case he was one of those kiddos that only liked Kraft.
Abingdon Grill's was a delicious house made Mac and cheese baked with a panko breadcrumb and my 2 year old devoured it. When the server sat his plate down she said, "the kitchen added fries to his plate, but here is his fruit- he can have them both."
Overall it was a well paced, welcoming establishment that served hot, reasonably priced food. Over and above for kids and families -- You can tell the owners care about providing good food and service, and he personally gave a little lollipop to each of our kids as we were leaving.
We will...
