5-Star: Coconut Macaroons. Best I have had. Toothsome, abdolutely delicious texture and flavor; and fresh!
5-Star: German Rye (You can choose one of 6 or so thicknesses if you want your loaf sliced.) This bread automatically upscales your sandwich, if you would like a more dense (as opposed to airy, fluffy) bread with a harder crust and delicious chew. This bread, sliced thin, makes our sandwiches taste like they come ftom an upscale deli. Truly Rustic. It takes you to a distant, happy place. (If you like dry salami with swiss, havarti, or muenster; a spot of dijon and mayo; your favorite accompanying fresh veggies, this bread takes you on a picnic to Europe.). *Some of their breads sell out by early afternoon; but if you call in the morning and your bread is in stock, they will reserve a loaf for you to pick up.)
Quiche: 3.5 Stars. It’s very good. … I have s Julia Child’s cookbook, and have been making Lorraine through the decades. I prefer my own. But. If you are fancying quiche, theirs is fairly good.
Sourdough: 3.5 Stars. … When I was a child, we did not live far from OLD San Francisco (clean sidewalks, fresh breezes coming off a briny cold ocean; an enchanting and fun city to stroll through: For poetry readings; live Jazz at night; bountiful bowls of rich, creamy chowder with fresh seafood; and the glorious San Francisco Extra Sour Sourdough bread. That heavenly manna, when grilled to a perfect, light, golden, garlic-buttered, parmesan crisp… with steamy, fluffy, chewy, springy bread… oozing with havarti or cheddar melted into the matrix… you wonder why you ever wanted to eat anything else.
There are a lot of sourdough breads now; but the iconically great ones still are in the Bay area.
I finally have concluded that what Sourdough is to the West Coast, Rye breads are to the East Coast. The lovely, fluffy, chewy, tasty versions of Rye here on the East Coast are great; but I am not sure folks here are savvy on baking or grilling a great Sourdough to take it from a dense, slightly stale bread to this chewy, fluffy glory when adequately grilled.
The Sourdough here is popular and sells out. I think folks here give it an 8 out of 10. For me, it is a 5.
We tried a cronut. It is delicious with a nice texture. (But. We bought a glazrd donut at Safeway for $2 less, and it also was yeasty, pillowy, with a light, lovely chew.) 4 Stars.
… Some of the items are excellent; others are good or above average but not memorable. I would definitely give them a try.
Service 5/5. I have always been treated well by all of the staff. They are good people, and it has the feel of a family, neighborhood bakery. It’s clean, with friendly,...
Read moreBreads unlimited is a locally owned business that must be supported. The staff are amazing, friendly and personable. They also have a great understanding of the delicious breads, pastry and pies they are selling and will be able to provide recommendations based on your likes and needs. The store is extremely clean and right now is asking that you wear a mask when entering to help protect the staff and other customers. As for the different pastry, pies and breads you have a chance to experience, be ready to feel overwhelmed with excitement. They have so many delicious items that I went in to order a couple rolls and I left with 2 large bags of pastry and bread. Everything is prepared in house each day with fresh ingredients. Try this bakery with the holidays coming up and get something delicious for you and your family to share. I can promise you that you won't be...
Read moreIf no stars were an option, that's what I would rate my experience today. Period. The owner of the store is nasty and has a VERY bad attitude. I work in the area and was checking out some of the different selections and had asked an associate for a spoon, and instead of welcoming me and making suggestions, she kind of rudely told the young lady that she can only give spoons to paying customers. I get it, you don't want this to be an everyday occurrence and unfortunately that was my first and last time in the establishment and whether I had any intentions on coming back or not, I DEFINITELY won't be spending a dollar with Breads Unlimited now. As a manager of a billion dollar company, and a father, there's just better ways to handle certain situations and I didn't appreciate that or...
