Would like to say first, we love Cafe Rio over Chipotle! Anyplace that makes their own tortillas fresh gets our vote. Our knock on the last visit was the service. We were the only guests in the restaurant and the food preparer seemed to want to rush us. First, she did not understand that we wanted 2 burritos and instead put the meat on the pan for 2 tacos (the portions seemed very small for burritos) and then she grabbed the 2 taco tortillas when I corrected her. She seemed annoyed at this. Then she asked if we wanted rice and beans and before we could respond, she already had rice and beans on the first tortilla. I should note that I'm diabetic so I always ask for just a little rice so the heaping portion of rice was way more than I would normally order. Their burritos are always the same size no matter what you have them put on, so less rice, more meat. I credit them for not charging more for this and it makes Cafe Rio a preferred place to dine. The next problem was, after she put the meat on, she immediately rolled the burrito. I also wanted corn added but let it go. She then immediately put in the oven. Again, not what I wanted. I usually get it enchilada style which includes a sauce on top before it goes in the oven. We'll be back, but if we encounter this server, we'll go across the street...
Read moreThe staff here move fast, which can have either good or frustrating results depending on what your needs are. If you're not picky, and you know what you want, then you will likely have a great experience. This has not been my personal experience because I am vegan and have an allergy. I've been here several times, and every single time I ask about whether something is vegan and/or if it contains X, the staff appear annoyed or confused and have to ask one or two other people before getting an answer. Even though I love their vegan salad option, I probably wouldn't visit so often if it wasn't for the fact that it's my boyfriend's favorite place to get food in Olney.
3 stars because my boyfriend would give it 5. On my own I'd give it 2. Their competitors, like Chipotle and Moe's, have more vegan options and better labeling. Cafe Rio needs to step up their game.
Some recommendations to Cafe Rio for improvement: • Better educate employees on common allergens and dietary restrictions • Better labeling of food • More vegan options, like tofu (10% of the US population is vegetarian and 25% of people under 35 are vegan. Depending on your key market, this could positively...
Read moreWe have frequented the Cafe Rio in Olney and every single time we are disappointed as the order is consistently incorrect. Out of every five times we go, 5/5 times something (or multiple items are) is missing or incorrect - I wish I was exaggerating. Additionally, the salads are skimpy when paying $14 for a salad. Today, I ordered ahead and picked up a salad with a couple of toppings, such as cojita cheese and pico de gallo - none of which were on the salad when I got home (image attached). Unfortunately, this is a frequent occurrence and has become very frustrating. We have decided to no longer visit this location. We prefer the Darnestown location as they are correct and provide a good amount of food. It has come to the point where we even tell our friends and family that the Olney location is no...
