Captain Harveys Subs & DELI — Restaurant in Maryland

I visited here for the first time in a decade. I've always been a fan of the original Captain Harvey's on Dundalk Ave, dating back to the late 1970s. These are new owners at this location. The cheesesteak sub did not disappoint. They've always been HUGE, and they still are. I think it's slightly smaller than it used to be, and they prepare it differently now. Instead of mountainous piles of beef and onions cooking on the grill, it appears that they precook the meat and keep it in a metal container on the grill, then just portion it out with each order and reheat it. Just as good, and no less quality than before. I also want to compliment the owners on the cleanliness of the place, as it was sparkling clean. That wasn't always the case many years ago, but it looks like these owners prefer to keep it clean, and they do. Like everything else, the prices have gone up. An 8" cheesesteak will cost you $7.99, but they do have some combinations and daily specials to help with the total cost if you wanted to add fries and a drink. I will be...

Been going there for over 20 years and I'd always get a small cup of extra steak for my dogs to have as a treat and they've always charged me $2.00 for it. My last trip there I ordered the same thing I have for years and suddenly it was WAY more money, like almost double! I asked how and was told I always order the Skipper, which I never have, I've always gotten just a regular steak sub. So that was $5.00 but the real surprise was I was charged for a whole 8" sub rather than the $2.00 of extra steak for my pups!

Great cheese steaks! Hard working folks behind the counter, good food, service was good. You seat yourself after you order at the counter. They bring food to you when it is ready.

The cheese steak sub was huge and great tasting. A 1/2 sub can easily be split between two people. It took 3 days to finish the whole sub.

I like cheese steak subs and this is one place I return to whenever I'm in the area and sometimes drive 30 minutes to get one (for me the cheese steak is that good!).
