Captain Smith's Seafood — Restaurant in Maryland

The service here was total clown shoes...apparently the owner is on vacation but must not have left anyone competent in charge. We ordered a 1/2 bushel of #1 male crabs and 2 lbs of shrimp on Friday to pick up on Saturday evening. When we went in to pick up it up they looked at us like were aliens and had no idea what order we we're talking about but said they could go ahead and fill it. Ok...whatever... Roughly 5 minutes after placing the same order again the Asian women comes back up front and asks for some reason if we wanted live crabs and I told her "No, we want them steamed" so she went back and another 5 minutes later the older looking of the guys that was working comes up and says he has to send us up the road to Chesapeake Bounty to get the crabs. Le sigh...we drove out to the other place and figure out they don't steam crabs there. They were going to give us a bushel of live crabs after we said 2 times that we wanted steamed crabs. We understood Chesapeake Bounty was just going off what Capt Smith's people told them, but we basically told them thanks but no thanks and go back to Capt Smith's to just get our money back. When we return to Capt Smith's they magically now can get us the 1/2 bushel of stemmed crabs we had already asked for 3 times now. Somehow the guy thought we wanted live crabs. I have no idea how that message got through to him. We weren't offered anything for all that trouble anything other than a discount there next time we go back. There won't be...

My experience was totally disappointing,the crabs was $8 dozen for females, small,mix, mostly small,the nephew of the owner was very disrespectful to me and another, (african American)customer. I ask that my crabs not come out the refrigerator, I wanted them, freshly cooked and seasoned, how ever they were from the prior day! crabs were cook very fast almost no wait time, a bushel at that. I ask the nephew tall guy with hat turned to the back working the register, are u sure they are fresh he replied if u don't think they are u can go up the street some where get CRABS. I live in calvert 10MINS AWAY,all the crabs under the top was cold no sesoning and the legs was cold,because of the rudeness I decided not to return THEM The other customer,just ask for additional bag,he told her for what, its 25 sent u wanna pay that the crab is not going bite you, the owner gave her A BAG.THIS CUSTOMER ALso worn me of smiths way of buissness, and that they tried to do her the same way with old crabs,she decided to get raw crabs!! To in sure freshness,The nephew had attitude that was just to much for a paying customer, maybe having a bad day! The two stars is for the crabs was decent taste,the owner was nice and tried to correct her nephew!! The price was really great!!!!! Just need Better customer service and no days old crabs...

So my first time trying them having usually gone to Captain Pat’s and Saturday’s Choice. Was skeptical after reading mixed reviews about their blue crabs and other food services. I had a good experience. I did a call in order on a Saturday and it was ready when I got there. It was exactly what I ordered (males). They were seasoned as requested, taste fresh, and full because I did ask about this on the phone. Not only was the amount of crabs I ordered correct in the bag, but they actually gave me an extra one. There were a lot of people there on the weekend afternoon I went and it was a quick process to pay and go. The inside decor is nice. Will have to try them again and hopefully there is...
