Flowers Bakery Cafe — Restaurant in Maryland

Great selection, friendly staff, was waited on very quickly even though it was busy. This bakery is located behind a gas station in the shopping center, So a little hard to see from the road. There’s parking available close to entrance. I am not from this area, working in healthcare for three months locally and found this bakery online, it came highly recommended as one of the top bakeries in the area. I Purchased a birthday cake for my wife that was of white and chocolate mousse. They offered to add a name or decoration on top, but I thought the cake looks so beautiful as is so I Brought it home and just added some candles and it looked amazing. We tried to cake last night and it was truly amazing. Honestly the best cake I have ever purchased. It had a top layer on creamy smooth icing then a layer of chocolate cake, chocolate mousse, white cake then a layer of white mousse. First thing I noticed when I eat this cake is that all of the flavors blend so perfectly and nothing overpowers the taste of the cake. Sometimes you can have a really thick sweet icing and it just stands out but this icing on the cake is not like that it blends perfectly and every flavor can be tasted. I purchased this cake on Wednesday and kept it in my refrigerator until my wife’s birthday on Saturday and it was so good. The cake melts in your mouth and I’m not exaggerating. Since this bakery was recommened by a family member, I assumed they must sell tasty pastry and cake. I decided to give them a try and ordered a 10' cake for my Gender Reveal BQQ. The employee who assisted us with the order was friendly and patient with us. She even helped me carry the cake to my car. Sadly to say, thats all I can really say that was good about my experience. The same employee failed to specfic we wanted a chocolate cake NOT Vanilla. So when I picked up my cake 2 weeks later, I was upset to find out it was Vanilla cake. She offered me one of their mini chocolate cake they had on display. I accepted the offer because they refuse to make the CORRECT order I originally requested. I still tried to give them the benefit of the doubt and thought their cake has the possibility to taste good. Once I had a slice for myself, I was more disappointed. The vanilla buttercream frosting had no sweet taste at ALL, as if they forgot to add sugar. The decorations were not all that bad. We had polka dots but instead of making them scattered like how polka dots are meant to be. They lined them up in a circle which didn't bother me too much as the other mistakes they made. Extremely disappointed/ unsatisfied with my recent encounters with Flowers bakery! On two occasions they’ve left much to be desired. On Thursday was my daughters birthday and when we called to pick up the cake early they said the cake was set for next week, when it was explicitly set for the 20th not the 27th. They provided usaba cake with frosting that felt stiff. After this happened I called to make sure the same didn’t happen for the cake I had ordered for her party. They assured me that it wouldn’t happen. Sunday the 23rd I call to confirm my pick up time, they say they have no orders for me but guarantee that they can have the cake I asked for in time. When I arrive at the bakery they did have the cake ready. Later when it’s time for the cake to be cut it feels like I’m cutting into a cake that’s been frozen, you can feel the iciness to it and the frosting is stiffer than it was for my previous cake. The pictures show this is not what a normal tiramisu cake is supposed to look like, nor the frosting.
