My review of GL Shacks in Eldersburg MD. The good, the bad and the summary. The Good I was in the Princess Shopping Center to pick up my wedding band and when I finished up it was about lunch time, so I decided to pop into GL Shacks for a bite to eat which was next door to the jewelry store. I ordered a cheesesteak sub with fries and a side of coleslaw. The cheesesteak roll was very soft and fresh, as were the other ingredients that complimented the sandwich. The coleslaw was freshly made as well but it wasn’t quite to my liking. Absolutely nothing wrong with it, just wasn’t the type of coleslaw that I prefer but others should try it as it may be your style.
The Bad The fries appeared to not be fresh cut fries, but out of a freezer bag. Which is ok, however the frying oil that they were fried in seemed to be a bit old and gave the fries a stale taste.
The Summary The GL Shack cheesesteak sub was very good and well presented. If you like cheesesteak sub’s I definitely recommend that you try this one. The coleslaw was ok, but like I said just not my style, but please try and make your own assessment. The fries were ok as well but could be better with fresh frying oil. The one thing I really appreciated is that they had music playing in the background, but it was not too loud, and you didn’t have to shout to have a conversation. So many establishments don’t understand this, which degrades from the dining experience. Overall, I give GL Shacks 4...
Read moreWe have ordered out from here in the past and decided to eat in this time. Wife ordered cheeseburger burnt, no just well done but " burnt", I ordered a cheesesteak with "American cheese only". The waitress recognized the cheesesteak wasn't American but provolone before she hit the table and took it back. The wife's Burge came some time later and it was pink inside. Not even close to burnt let alone well done. My cheesesteak comes back out with orange cheese laid on top of an attempt to remove traces of provolone. It was a fiasco and I nor my family will return or order again from this place. It appears to be a much better bar than an eatery. Screwing up one order is to be expected on occasion. But this was clearly cook that has no clue why...
Read moreApparently the staff doesn’t know how executive orders work. Wouldn’t serve me because my license is expired, even though there’s an executive order from Governor Hogan that says it’s good until August 30th due to covid. It’s good that they’re diligent on checking ID’s, but they should be aware of the current laws/orders that can impact their establishment. I provided the email from the MVA covering this but they waived it off and didn’t read it. I would understand if I looked young, but I’m in my 30’s, clearly of age. Didn’t expect much from this place to begin with but I was willing to give it a chance to change my mind. Doubt I’ll go back now. I’m sure they’ll survive without my business, but seems strange they would be so quick to send...
