It pains me to write this review, but I thought I would let people know about the decline of the food and service (though no fault of the service staff). We have been going to this place for years, and yes, the food has been great most of the time, and the service depends on how busy they are. We go about once a week. In the past several weeks, we have noticed a significant decline in the food quality. The meals have been cold, and meats (chicken, steak, salmon) have been overcooked and dry. In one case, my wife ordered the chicken tender salad, and the tenders came out raw. I decided to write this review because of our visit on 1/24/24 for dinner. My wife ordered the salmon with fries and a side salad. I ordered the steak with mashed potatoes with gravy and cole slaw. My wife's salmon was significantly overcooked and dry, and cold fries. My steak was extremely dry and tough; the mashed potatoes and gravy were ice cold. I hesitated to order them because I have yet to have them come out hot, but I wanted to try again. They are incredibly understaffed as they have one waitress for the entire side of the restaurant, which was completely full primarily due to a large party (I counted 16 people) occupying one of the three sections on that side of the restaurant. There have been large dinner parties the two times we have been to Hershey's. I am not sure why people think this is a place for a party of more than ten people, as the restaurant's size is not conducive to large parties. Lastly, the menu has not been updated for several years, and they never have specials. The management needs to add new items to the menu or start having specials again. Also, staff the dinner time with more than one waitress. It will be a long time until we...
Read moreI had an appointment to install my car alarm, and had to wait a couple of hours until the installation was done, so I went on a, search for a place to have lunch, and, serendipitiously, stumbled upon Hershey's. I got there a couple of minutes before they opened, but I was invited to wait in one of their outside tables. It gave me some time to look around the place. Hershey's is tucked away in a semi-industrial area of Gaithersburg, right across the railroad tracks. It has a lovely patio outside, which I am sure would be great in the summer months. The establishment is primarily a local watering hole with a well-stocked bar that also serves a limited but substantial menu. The dishes seem to be influenced by Southern cooking. There are multiple tables, which by the time I left were busy with local patrons. Following what is usually my preference, I sat at the bar. I ordered one of their beers on tap, Kona, which was refreshing. I ordered one of their fried chicken platters, the two-piece white, which came with two sides, and mine were fried okra and coleslaw. There is a 25 minute wait whenever you order fried chicken, because it is fried "a la minute" (to order), and that meant receiving a wonderful plate of freshly fried chicken that was shateringly crispy outside and juicy and moist on the inside. The chicken was well seasoned, and so where the crispy fried okra. The servings were generous! I want also mention the wonderful service I got at the bar, where I appreciated the conversation with the bartender. Hershey's was a little gem that deserves to be visited more than once! I did not want to leave out that they also have live music and dancing on...
Read moreI’ve been to this place on several occasions. Today was by far the absolute worst experience in a restaurant I’ve ever had. Vicki the “manager” accosted me for sitting with the hired band I was here to see. Then proceeded to bad mouth me to another member of the staff. When I asked for the manager imagine my surprise when this rude human told me that was her. I’m here to see a band and order some food (which is decent here at best.) I was told to leave the table I was seated at with the band. Then when I came back in at the prescribed time I was refused any table where I could actually see the band. Absolutely horrendous service from this sad excuse for a manager. I will be speaking to the owner. If this travesty is not corrected I will never come back here. And I will advise all of my friends to not come here as well.
To be absolutely clear it’s 9:15 PM on a Friday night in a tiny little restaurant most people don’t even know exists. This place is mostly frequented by elderly people, and those have already gone home. At this time of evening anyone here is likely here for the live music. To refuse to seat paying customers in the performance area is unacceptable at best. Frankly, small family owned places like this is going down. You’d think with the plethora of vastly higher quality establishments they’d offer better service here. My money spends just as well at some corporate owned franchise as it...
