Lemon Slice Cafe is one of Silver Spring's hidden treasures, and this reviewer would like to do all he can to remove the "hidden" part from the "treasure." The owner of the venue, Beth Yohannes, is a wonderful cook, serves generous portions, is a consummate customer service professional, and a generous human being who routinely supports less fortunate members of the community. My go-to meal is her salmon salad topped with avocado dressing, but each time I visit, almost always in the company of someone I am introducing to the venue or a repeat customer, I hear nothing but praise for whatever it is they have ordered - subs and sandwiches on bread, rolls or ciabatta, awaze tibs, portabello on panini, various wraps, burgers and more. There's also a wide assortment of items from the restaurant's all-day breakfast menu. Oh, yes, I nearly forgot. The ice coffee is one of the best in the area. So if you're in or around downtown Silver Spring during the morning or afternoon any day of the week, stop by, say "hello," and grab a bite to eat. You'll be supporting a small independent business owner and, just as important, treating yourself to a...
ย ย ย Read moreI was in Silver Spring looking for a bite to eat while I waited for my girlfriend to be finished at the dentist and found this place.
It's definitely a local breakfast joint for the office folk in the neighborhood but the two ladies running the show were very pleasant. There's even what looks to be a little book lending library and they have some outside seating as well.
I got a bacon, egg, cheese on wheat and it was exceptionally good. Definitely going to stop by next time I'm in Silver Spring early.
Some notes -
Prices are a bit higher than you might expect for a simple breakfast sandwich but If you go to Starbucks or the like and get one of theirs usually it's little cheaper and a lot better. Also, you're supporting local small business.
There is a surcharge on card purchases, a practice I'm not generally a fan of but the Small Business POS systems shops like this tend to use have been raising costs considerably to prop up...
ย ย ย Read moreI just want to pre-face this by saying this is about the time I recently went. I have gone previously and it was a 5/5, but this time was a worse experience. My partner and I went, there was two people and it was empty. One employee was having lunch and the other took our order. After we ordered we sat down and about 5-10 minutes later a bunch of people came in and pre-orders. I watched as both of the employees tried to make everything ALL AT ONCE, not person by person. So basically, food was just sitting there, we waited 45 minutes for our food. These two employees were alone working, no one in the kitchen. The food was so hot it burned me and my partner and the cinnamon roll was stale. We spend over $30..... so please update your staffing and desserts. Two young kids shouldn't be alone with no one in the back and food shouldn't burn us or be stale. AGAIN, this is the most recent experience. Prior...
